J.K Rowling's Wizarding reluctance.
Is she just more interested in a paycheck?
Living with two big sisters in the early two-thousands could be an overwhelming task. Me and my siblings are all five years apart respectively, Meaning my eldest sister Gina is in fact ten years older than me and enjoyed many of the perks of being a 90βs kid. Which was not just limited to VHS tapes.
Gina had grown up in the golden era of the βGolden trioβ, In case you arenβt familiar with the term, It's the moniker that J.K. Rowlingβs famous trio of wizards featured in the βHarry Potterβ franchise had earned. My siblings had a true love for reading, Something I didnβt gain until later on in life- Still quite early, I learned to love to read by way of fan fiction, I would immerse myself in worlds that had been previously built on the big screen and would thrive while doing it.
Books truly have a way of shaping people, Their personalities, and how we go about our daily life. There is even a study that goes as far to say that people can acquire personalities of fictional characters if exposed to them for an intense or long period of time.
I am someone who believes in the written word, Someone who truly thinks that the right book can change someone's life. The right essay can change your mind or way of thinking. Reading can undoubtedly change who you are as a person.
A lot of authors will claim that they want nothing more than to build their worlds or to share their beliefs. Some authors want to simply prove a point or shed light on a subject that would otherwise be left in the dark.
However, Iβd like to focus on an author who is well known throughout the whole world, The author I previously mentioned, J.K. Rowling. I know what youβre thinking, This is just going to be another rant about her bigotry beliefs, Blatant racism, Homophobia and transphobia but youβre wrong. Although I agree that those issues need to be brought to light- I donβt have all the facts to compile enough evidence to write a real article about it, And I always believe that when writing about someoneβs character you should be able to cite your sources.
As an avid fan of the Harry Potter franchise, I do feel that I have enough experience within the Harry Potter fandom to speak on J.K. Rowlingβs money grabbing tendencies. Anyone who has created a franchise is always on the lookout for βmoreβ. They want to find more ways to profit from the subject or world that theyβve created. Youtubers make βMerchβ, As do bands and musicians.
J.K. Rowling has quite literally found millions of ways to continue profiting off of her Harry Potter franchise. Usually I wouldnβt complain about more Harry Potter content, The problem with the content she's continuously putting out is that it's content no one wanted or asked for.
Iβve scoured forums, Tumblr, Instagram, Even facebook and I can tell you I havenβt found a single person who asked for Fantastic Beasts before the Movie. I can inform you however, That since the very beginning of Harry Potter, People have asked for books and Movies, Any form of content for the marauders and their pleas have come on deaf ears.
Many people have asked for prequels that actually relate to the Harry Potter character, Stories about Harryβs parents, In depth books about their stories- To have content on Snape and his past, Even books about Tom Riddle- Something we see glimpses of in the movies and books but could fill out complete novels of their own.
J.K. Rowling has written small books on βPotion Recipesβ (A cook book), The rules of quidditch and much more. However she hasnβt listened to what her readers have actually asked for.
Iβm not the type of person to run around and point fingers, But it seems to me like J.K. rowling is just ungrateful. Listen, I donβt ever condone the notion that content creators owe anyone anything- However, I do feel that if she does owe us one thing, Its to at the very least listen to what the people actually want.
Writing recipes based off of the Harry Potter world and Rules for a fictional sport can only do so much. Most people who love Harry Potter wont even end up reading those books, Only buying them to add to their βMagical Collection.β
Part of me wonders if she just doesnβt know how to write anything as golden and magical as the original Harry Potter series. The closest fans have gotten to answers that could be solved in more books are a series of tweets that leave people a bit confused.
The problem with J.K. Rowling is that she doesnβt seem to care what her readers want as long as the books she pops out sell. Many people even want a series on the golden trio after their Hogwarts graduation- They want more of the world they love and the characters in it, However it seems J.K. Rowling would rather make fluff piece cook-books than delve back into the real wonderful wizarding world.

This is a very interesting story; I often wonder if capturing the original essence of the Harry Potter world would pale in comparison to what it was when it was first released...either way, would be fun to see more work done from her on the series.
