If you wish that you’d never been born, Clarence is going to make you regret it.

It’s a Wonderful Life was released in 1946. On the night of Christmas Eve, an angel shows distraught George Bailey what the lives of his family and friends would have been like if he were never born. George realizes how much of a positive impact he has made on the world in this nightmarish alternative timeline.

The first time I ever saw It’s a Wonderful Life, the film warmed my heart and even brought tears into my eyes. This story is a genuinely impactful piece of film history that has touched the hearts of many audiences who may also be looking for some help during a rough period of time.

James Stewart lights up the film with his energetic personality stealing the show with his incredible enthusiasm, riveting emotion, and fighting endless battles. George Bailey is an impactful character of film history who has been through turmoils. Nobody is ever alone. Think about all the positive moments in your life when stuck in negative situations.

In Donna Reed’s first film she makes a memorable performance as Mary. One of my favorite aspects of the film is the love story between George and Mary. They have each made a positive impact on one another’s lives. Reed’s strong portrayal made an influence that will always be remembered for her never-ending support.

Remember that scene where George and Mary throw rocks at the house they’re going to live in someday? Reed actually threw the rock and broke a window in the direct spot she was supposed to throw it in without a stunt double!

The strongest component of It’s a Wonderful Life is the delivery of truly powerful performances that I have ever seen. Lionel Barrymore was outstanding as the conniving Mr. Potter who was trying to take over the town by enticing those around him to join him under his power.

Even though he only had fifteen minutes worth of screen-time, Henry Travers made a huge impact as Clarence, the angel who is assigned to help George. He had excellent comedic timing and he brought an earnest levity to the film. My most favorite part about his performance was his interactions among each character. Without Clarence, this movie would not be what it is.

The cast of It’s a Wonderful Life was magnificent. Everyone absorbs their part bringing out the true message of the film. Performances by Thomas Mitchel, Beulah Bondi, Frank Faylen, Ward Bond, Gloria Grahame, H.B Warner, and so many other incredible actors. The young actors who played George’s children were especially memorable.

Ironically this holiday film with a snowstorm at the end of the movie was filmed during a very hot summer. George’s pivotal run through the town was filmed on one of those hot days.

Despite some struggles, the cast and crew had a fun time working on this project. There was even a moment in a scene where a drunken Uncle Billy walked offscreen and apparently trips over barrels making a loud noise. That was unscripted. As the story goes, a crew member dropped a tray of props and the actors just went with it so they wouldn’t ruin the scene. That’s my favorite part of movies. They tell a story and make memories.

It’s a Wonderful Life is a beautiful and impactful timeless classic that will never lose its heartwarming message. Frank Capra brought an original story to the screen that not only makes one feel happy for what they have, but also to reflect on the positive impacts on your life to help you through times of turmoil.
