Hard Target Movie Review 1993: Jean-Claude Van Damme And John Wick Star Join Hands In This Action-Thriller

No one has done the action more gracefully than Jean-Claude Van Damme in his time. Van Damme's movies had the edge-of-your seatness and 'chaotic'Jean-Claude Van Damme and he hasn't let the world forget it. That he is one of the best in the business, no one contests that. That he brings that art form to the big screen is something only he can. And, that brings us to his latest flick '', which is nothing less than a party. Without any particular reference to a genre, he plays the lead in this film, which happens to be the perfect action adventure.

Coming to the basic premise, the film opens up with Jean-Claude Van Damme being taken away to a jail. It is only after his release that he sets out to hunt down a retired police officer for revenge. The basic premise of the film is fairly simple, which really isn't a bad thing, as it is never difficult to follow.

The action in the film is so good that the audience knows immediately that they are watching one of the best action movies of that year. Van Damme plays a character who has no qualms in kicking ass and this the hero is such a badass that even the villain is left in awe of him. The film also has some very pleasant surprises in store.

Jean-Claude Van Damme has fought in more than 300 action movies over the years, but this is his first starring role. When he agreed to do it, he demanded the right to direct and rewrite the script himself. He wants to be true to his history as a film maker and as an action star. He is working with some of the best Hollywood actors and directors. The film is a film that will live in the hearts of people for years. It is an incredible fight film that is not for the faint of heart.

Jean-Claude Van Damme has nothing to prove with this performance. There is no acting and this is as simple as it gets. This is Jean-Claude Van Damme as he really is.

The only down side is that the film is a tad slow. Also, there are times when it starts to feel repetitive. However, even then, the film is a worthy watch. 'Hard Target' is highly recommended to those who enjoy watching Jean-Claude Van Damme do his thing.

Apart from Jean-Claude Van Damme, the film also stars Peter Stormare, Ed Harris and Bridget Fonda.Having made his debut with the Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer, "Hard Target" I can safely say that the talented action director and action choreographer David Ayer is the new poster boy of action films. David Ayer did a commendable job in the 1995 thriller, "Harsh Times" and in this he impresses all the more. With his movie being about a man's journey through life, David Ayer has made a film that is difficult to call bad. The screenplay is decent with a good pace and there is no unnecessary drama.

In this film, Jean-Claude Van Damme plays James, a cop with a troubled past. He has killed two people in his life and now is haunted by the deaths of these two people. One of them is a policeman while the other is an arsonist. James is a crime investigation officer but he is way more than that. He is the human equivalent of Predator as he is a predator who comes to punish those who he deems to have harmed his kin in the past. He will slaughter anyone that gets in his way but he does not get out of his own way and that is his charm. The problem with James is that he takes his revenge too far and ends up damaging his own life in the process. In the end, he is forced to fight back.
