Godzilla Review
I bought my ticket to see Gojira beat the crap out of some monsters, and while he did often let the monsters duel these were interrupted by a cut to news footage looks at the very same fight.

What It Is: Something is causing a seismic disturbance in Japan and it has been since a giant Earthquake struck the Philippines in 1999. At the quake site, Dr. Ishiro Serizawa (Watanabe) and his assistant Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins) stumble upon a spore within a giant cavern. This spore is perceived to be alien. Meanwhile, in Japan, a gigantic tremor has destroyed the Janjira power plant run by Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston). During the meltdown Joe’s wife Sandra (Juliette Binoche) was killed and Joe began to lose his sanity. Flash forward 15 years now Joe’s son Ford Brody (Taylor-Johnson) is a Lieutenant in the United States military. He himself is now a husband to Elle (Elizabeth Olsen) and father to 3 and a half-year-old Sam. That spore unleashes a monster and now only the King of the Monsters, the legendary Godzilla can save humanity.
What We Think: While Edwards does a great job with the scope of this project, often times his cut from the action makes me angry. I bought my ticket to see Gojira beat the crap out of some monsters, and while he did often let the monsters duel these were interrupted by a cut to news footage looks at the very same fight. This isn’t the way I want to see that happen. I felt Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Ford character was rather wooden and didn’t emote near enough to warrant the emphasis on him. Elizabeth Olsen’s Elle was the humanity of the film as she waited for Ford to return while trying to help Sam escape a city under siege.
Our Grade: B-, It doesn’t quite get to that A material level. It’s far too saggy, and the plot tends to drag. A misuse of certain characters (and no I’m not talking about the big guy). What stops this sometimes boring film is Gojira himself whenever “da big guy” is on screen it is just a wonderful thing. Kudos to Legendary and Gareth Edwards for getting the look and feel of Gojira right, and let’s not talk about that ROAR which is just amazing. Go see it…in IMAX like a normal person should!

Top Ten: Comic Book Movies!
Comic books. They have for the better part of the century been the fodder for films. But what are the best of these? With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman making trucks full of money, we’ve decided to countdown our top ten comic book films! But what oh what were our rules? Well, first the movie had to be based on a comic book, graphic novel, or manga. Now, this does include things like A History of Violence and V For Vendetta. And lastly, each list we received had ten films on it, each film was given a point total corresponding with their position (movie ten got one point, movie one receives 10 points etc.). Before Sylvester the Cat, there was Sylvester the Dog
Sylvester was a Merrie Melodies canine Sylvester, the Cat, is a beloved Looney Tunes character who debuted in March 1947 in the animated short Life with Feathers. The iconic Mel Blanc once said that he enjoyed voicing Sylvester, one of his favorite characters. The cartoon short that was near and dear to Blanc's heart was Bird's Anonymous which starred the popular cat.

Book Review: "How They Broke Britain" by James O'Brien
There are times when you find a really good book and think to yourself 'I'm going to savour this one'. Then there are books like this where it is still really good but instead you think 'ah, let's relive this trauma...' The showboating carousel of politics in the UK has definitely been in shambles since 2010 but the efforts of the kangaroo cabinet of the Pandemic Era definitely took the biscuit as quite possibly the worst case scenario. Brexit had not been delivered properly, a global virus was spreading quickly and the folks of the United Kingdom were trapped in their homes being led by a bumbling fool of a Prime Minister and his horrific attempts at government which mainly involved him covering up lies he'd told the previous day. In an era that will definitely turn into a case study, this book doesn't just teach us about the things we didn't know, but makes us realise how what we did know was just ridiculous.
