Genie Francis is off General Hospital again

General Hospital viewers have been wondering where Laura Collins has been since the show returned from hiatus. Madame mayor has been mentioned a few times and on Wednesday her husband Kevin was seen talking to Anna. Spoiler alerts have been saying that Cyrus Renault would be smitten with Laura and obsessed with her. No news regarding the whereabouts of Genie Francis has been available until now. Soap Dirt recently reported that the daytime veteran drama d not renew her contract. It is unclear what this means for Laura who was intent on making Cyrus pay for his crimes. The character could be recast or Francis might work on recurring status.

General Hospital has been showing Mac without Felicia and he makes excuses regarding where she is. Kevin and Lulu might soon do the same for Laura. Kristen Wagoner and Genie Francis are beloved long time veterans of General Hospital. Each of them have a history of coming and going on the show and at times have shared their issues in public. If Francis does not return this will be disappointing for the viewers as well as troubling for the storyline. There are rumors that William deVry, (Julian Jerome) and Emme Rylan (Lulu Falconeri) have been fired and Daytime Confidential days more cast cuts are coming.

Soap Dirt has an image of the Floating Rib where it has been burned out and says someone on the show will die because of the drugs that Cyrus is pushing. Sasha currently has a drug problem so she is the most likely person to die. There is no information on why Mac’s restaurant burns it if anyone actually does in the fire. Felicia should be on hand for such a devastating loss and Laura as mayor could begin an investigation. Some General Hospital viewers were troubled that Mrs. Collins did not show up for Mike Corbin’s funeral services she and Sonny are close.

Genie Francis has had a long and difficult history with General Hospital. She joined the cast in 1977 and left in 1982 to work in prime time television. She returned in 1993 and the following year was off the show for 6 weeks due to maternity leave. In 2002 Genie had contract issues and left the show abruptly. She returned in June of 2006 and remained until November of that same year. The actress went back to Port Charles in January of 2013. She remained with the ABC daytime drama for 5 months and returned again in June of 2015. In January 2018 she was bumped to recurring status but brought back on contract in July of that year.

Laura was heavily involved in the Ryan Chamberlain storyline as she was married to him while her husband Kevin was locked up in the mental hospital. Laura and Curtis worked together as a team and were instrumental and assisting in Ryan's takedown. When Cyrus Renault came into the picture Laura was shot and vowed to stop mob crime in Port Charles. As mayor, she wanted to clean up the waterfront and make sure Cyrus is re-incarcerated or run out of Port Charles. Now that Genie Francis has departed yet again, there is no way to know how all of this will play out.

In the meantime, Laura's loved ones could use her wisdom. Nikolas and Ava are playing a dangerous game with Ryan Chamberlain while Lulu is caught between Dustin and Dante who just returned to Port Charles. Kevin seems solid right now but it's almost Halloween, which indicates that his twin will be up to something devilish. Spencer is still at boarding school but will eventually be affected by the games his dad and stepmom are playing. Cyrus is still running drugs through the city and needs to be stopped. Best of luck to Genie Francis wherever she goes from this point. Perhaps she will grace General Hospital with her presence yet again.
