Jane Elliot breathes life back into Port Charles

Jane Elliot originated the role of Tracy Quartermaine on General Hospital in 1978. This character is a force of nature and in the words of the MC Hammer song, "Can't Touch This." Fans of the show were disappointed when Elliot decided to retire in March of 2017 and delighted when she returned for the holidays in 2019 and 2020 and now in 2022, she's back.

Although Tracy returned to Port Charles with the bad news that Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) was dead she is actually lifting the somber mood of those who have been hit hard by too many deaths all at once. Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) was presumed dead and baby Liam Michael passed away right on top of each other. The news that Luke is gone is a bit much but Tracy has a way of lightening the mood.

Tracy Quartermaine takes no prisoners

General Hospital viewers have been saying for quite some time that something is off with the show as if there were a missing link and the January 5 episode let everyone know that Tracy's presence is what has been absent from the screen. Her snark, directness, and ability to annoy and put people on the spot are just what Port Charle needs to lift it out of the doldrums.

Tracy is like that great aunt or grandmother that you cannot lie too because when she looks in your eyes you simply fold. The scenes where she questioned Brooke Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) then figured out that baby Bailey is really Louise were priceless. Tracy sat back and simply observed her surroundings as many older and wiser women do and came up with the answers she needed.

She told BLQ point-blank that she knows she was never pregnant and even asked if her granddaughter had stolen someone's baby. Brook Lynn will naturally demand the silence of her grandmother but spoilers have not said how much of the truth if any she will reveal. Eagle-eyed Tracy will probably put it all together even if Brooke Lynn does not come completely clean.

General Hospital fans want Jane Elliot to stick around

Elliot, 74, is rocking her natural grey hair as other soap characters have done. Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) is a bit salt and pepper but the grey is beginning to take over. Martin Grey (Michael E Knight) is completely a silver fox as is Christian LeBlanc who portrays Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless. Elliot is currently the only older female soap character who is letting nature take its course and she is to be commended.

When Elliot returned in 2019 and 202 she was on General Hospital from Thanksgiving until just after New Year. No one has announced how long this visit will last but fans hope it is for quite a while. No one stirs things up the way Tracy does and she lights up the screen each time she is in a scene. Fans are thankful for this diversion from the never-ending saga of Peter August.

If Tracy remains in Port Charles for a while she will eventually cross paths with Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessey) and who knows, some sparks might fly between the two. Tracy can hold her own with the evil genius just as well as Liesl Obrecht (Kathlene Gati). Victor is currently plotting with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to get revenge on Brooke Lynn for lying that Bailey was his child. Perhaps he might fall for Tracy and scrap his plans to annihilate her granddaughter. Be on the lookout for General Hospital updates related to Jane Elliot and Tracy Quartermaine as they become available.
