'General Hospital' Sonny in the aftermath of Mike's death

Once Mike Corbin passes away on General Hospital, there is a lot the writers could do with his grieving son. Carly and the family could and should rally around Sonny and give him all the support he needs. This probably would not be dramatic enough to keep fans engaged, and might be why several other storylines seem to be crashing down on the Corinthos family. Maurice Bernard who portrays Sonny has shared often that he has Bipolar disorder, just like his character. His wife Paula has even said that the actor threatened to kill her once when he was off his meds. Both Maurice and his beloved GH character are taking lithium for the condition and the writers could have art to imitate life.

It's been a while since Sonny had any flare ups in his condition. He has been level headed and been operating with sound judgment in spite of all the troubles he is dealing with. Sonny is coming to terms with the fact that is father is dying and the two men have been making peace with each other. Last week spoilers indicated that Max Gail who portrays Mike Corbin would not just lay in his bed and die. There will be episodes where Sonny wonders "what if" and envisions what life might have been like if things were different between him and his dad. These episodes will show Gail on his feet and interacting with his son.

It's not clear if these reflections will take place before or after Mike's death but this will surely weight heavily on Sonny. Once his dad is gone, Micahel Corinthos, may have regrets and become emotionally imbalanced. He could stop taking his meds, or not go to his doctor to have them adjusted due to the new stresses in his life. In the past, Carly had to practically force him to do what he needed to remain balanced but now this may not be so easy. In addition to Mike dying, Nelle Benson is still at large and no one knows if she is dead or alive. Sonny will be watching out for her and this will be a great distraction. He is also angry that Nelle slashed the throat of his goddaughter Brooklyn and will want revenge if she does turn up alive.

There is also the threat to his family from Cyrus Renault and keeping the secret that Marcus Taggert is alive. One of the worst things that Sonny will deal with might be the one to push him over the edge and that will be the secret Carly has with Jax, It took Sonny a while to forgive his wife for not telling him that Nikolas was alive and well in Port Charles. The fact that Carly kept this secret with her ex-husband was an added pain in the neck. Now Jax and Carly are hiding the fact that Nelle fell over the cliff and Carly tried to save her and failed. Mrs. Corinthos actually hesitated and those few moments might have made the difference in Nelle falling or not.

Carly is already hallucinating about seeing her adopted sister and she is telling no one but Jax who still carries a torch for her. Jasper asked his daughter's mom to move in with him when it looked as if a mom war was about to break out. Jax does not respect boundaries and enjoys getting the best of Sonny when he can. The two men had agreed to play nice for the sake of Joslyn but now things have changed. The truth will have to come out, whether Carly confesses to her husband, or Nelle shows up and tells everyone that her "sister" almost let her die. Nelle called for several minutes before Carly eventually reached out to pull her up and this could come back to bite Sonny's wife.

All of this hitting him at once on top of his father dying could open a door for the bipolar disorder to rear its ugly head. It may take a while before Carly figures out what is going on with Sonny but by then his actions could have pushed her into the arms of Jax, This would really be the final straw for Sonny and the character could do what Maurice Bernard did when he was off his meds. Please keep in mind that Paula Bernard was a loving wife trying to help her husband and there was no underlying issue such as infidelity. I'm suggesting as a possibility that Sonny could go off the deep end and try to actually kill Carly or Jax.

Jasper is confident Sonny won't harm him because of Joss, but Sonny off his meds would not be thinking clearly. This is an extreme stretch but General Hospital viewers know that the Corinthos family will not stay happy for long. Brando could be working for Cyrus, which would add another layer of betrayal. Dante will return home and his mental issues will also come into play. Morgan was bipolar like his father and died when Ava switched his meds. Dante's PTSD could be more hereditary than what happened to him while working undercover. I hope you have enjoyed reading these possible scenarios and perhaps you have a few of your own.
