General Hospital’s Kelly Thiebaud wins Soap Hub’s performance of the week award

Congratulations to Kelly Thiebaud who recently won Soap Hub’s award for Performance of the week. The actress portrays Dr. Britt Westbourne on the ABC soap GENERAL HOSPITAL. JaSam fans who are reading this, I ask you for a little restraint. Please don’t attack Ms. Thiebaud or say ugly things on her social media or other Internet platforms. Don’t hate: Congratulate, Appreciate, and Celebrate.

For all of the detractors, there are many more who believe Jabritt will be a super couple. Younger GH fans may not know what that really means so let’s go back in time. Older soap opera viewers can recall romance novels where boy meets girl, they fall in love but every time they are about to become intimate something happens to stop them. By the time you got to the end of the book and they finally made love, you were cheering for them. Daytime drama shows used this formula of sexual tension during the 1980s when super couples were popular.

This was the case with the most famous super couple of all time, Bo and Hope Brady on NBC's DAYS OF OUR LIVES. When they met Hope was only 17. She promised to give herself to Bo on her 18th birthday but the night was ruined when her dad interrupted and then had a heart attack. More mishaps befell the couple but they stayed the course and their chemistry grew. Eventually, they consummated the relationship and later married. There also was a period of time before GENERAL HOSPITAL's Frisco and Felicia became intimate.

Today on the soaps there is rarely a getting to know each other, sparks flying, obstacles in the way, and a buildup up sexual tension, This is why Jason and Britt are growing on those who watch GENERAL HOSPITAL They really did not know much about one another and definately did not trust each other. They started out by tolerating, getting to know, and now are just beginning to become friends. Naturally, every couple cannot have this dynamic but it is refreshing when the writers plan it this way.

Just like decades ago viewers will be tuning in to see when Jabrit holds hands, snuggles next to one another, and then share their first kiss. If GENERAL HOSPITAL fans were paying attention last week the writers may have given Sam her walking papers based on an exchange she had with Carly and also what took place with Dante and later Jason. JaSam fans don['t like it but this is the direction in which the show is headed so please play nice.

Sam had told Jason she wanted out of his life in order to protect her children. She made these wished absolutely clear. Many fans were troubled by this breakup and wondered what the writers were thinking, but now the plot is unfolding. Sam basically kicked the love of her life to the curb and now is having second thoughts. She was in panic mode when she begged Carly to let her be in the know, but Mrs. Corinthos used tough love and reminded Sam that she walked out on Jason and was not going to be let back in.

Sam next tried to con Dante Falconeri by saying she would work with him in finding Jason and bringing him back to Port Charles alive. Sam ditched her half brother's half brother and found the safe house where Jason and Britt had been hiding. if that confused anyone, Sam and Wiley share Julian as a father, and Dante and the little boy both have Olivia as their mother. Sam promised to play by the rules but later flattened Dante's car tires so that he would not follow her to the Cassadine barn where she found Jabritt hiding out.

At this point, it looked as though Sam was still connected to Jason and knew his every move. She presented him with fake passports and announced that she would go with him as far as Canada and they would drop Britt off somewhere safe. Sam was desperate to be let in on the action and JaSam fans were hoping Jason would oblige her and then the moment of truth came. Jason balked at the idea and told Sam to go back to Port Charles. Reluctantly Ms. McCall/Morgan handed her passport to Britt and thus passed the torch to her successor.

Sam had to head back to Port Charles to lick her wounds and ponder what she has given up. Britt Westbourne has essentially been given the keys to the kingdom and a path to the heart of the man who saved her life.Even that is the stuff of romance novels and super couples past. I'm all for women's rights but I love a good damsel in distress scenario from time to time. GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers may recall that when Dante and Jordan were looking at the footage from the night of the shooting, they were wondering how Jason knew Britt was in trouble and where to find her.

This may have been the writer's way of solidifying that JaBritt has a strong connection. Soap couples who have been together for the long haul often can sense when their partner is in danger and Jason and Britt obviously have that bond right now. Kelly Thiebaud and Steve Morgan are great together and fans can't wait to see what happens next with them. Kudos to Soap Hub for recognizing the great acting skills of Thiebaud as "The Britch".

GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers will also recall that when Spinelli referred to Dr. Westbourne by her nickname, Jason asked him not to call her that. Britt was standing outside the door smiling. It looks like the writers are going to play this one by the book and drag out the friendship with sweet glances, knowing looks, little gestures, and eventually give JaBritt fans what they desire.
