News outlets say Chaves will not return

"Say it ain't so," but it appears true. According to Soaps.com Nicholas Chaves will not return to General Hospital as Spencer Cassadine. If thsi turns out to be false information, remember I'm just the messenger reporting what is being said. TV Line broke the news, citing "multiple sources," so Sprina fans are now mourning what might have been.

When Chaves left to film Monsters 2: The Eric and Lyle Melendez Story he said he would be back, and GH confirmed that his exit would be temporary. Fans, however, noticed last month that Nicholas was no longer listed in the credits with the cast members on contract. He also unfollowed some GH cast on social media which was a red flag for fans. The actor's contract was not up until July so he may have been let out early.

ABC and Chaves have remained silent

There has been no news from representatives of Chaves or ABC, so some fans are holding out hope that Spencer will return for May sweeps. The problem with that logic is that whatever will happen next month has already been taped.

General Hospital fans fell in love with Spencer and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali), dubbing them Sprina. On one occasion, some fans had an airplane to write in the sky over the ABC studio "We love Sprina." The duo was featured on the cover of People Magzine as a super couple but now it seems the fairy tale may be over.

What's really going on?

GH fans are wondering what happened and whose decision it was for Chaves not to return. Monster 2 had several delays, but even if he missed the original deadline, Spencer could still have returned at a later date. ABC execs said they were excited about this new opportunity for the actor and would welcome him back, but something has changed.

The silence from ABC and Chaves in the midst of the rumors is what is troubling GH viewers who want to know with certainty what is going on. Trina is not moving on with her life and is clinging to Ace Cassadine (Jay and Joey Clay). There were rumors she might hook-up with Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) but she probably would not do that to Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy).

What happens if Spencer does not return?

If Spencer remains deceased, what will that mean for Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) and Ace? Could Esme return from her watery grave and seek custody of her son? Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) was just sent to a prison outside of Port Charles, so he probably will not be on screen for quite some time.

Laura Collins (Genie Francis) cannot take care of her grandson indefinitely, and what if Heather Webber (Alley Mills) is deemed innocent of her crimes because her hip replacement was toxic? There is also the fact that no one has thought to have a DNA test and took Esme's word that her son belonged to Nikolas.

Loose ends

There are a lot of loose ends in this storyline Hopefully, fans will soon know without a doubt whether Chaves will return, Spencer will remain dead, or the role will be recast. Nicholas Alexander Chaves came to General Hospital with some fans doubting him and wishing for Nicolas Bechtel to return.

Chaves seemed a bit tall for the role and somewhat awkward, but in two years, he had grown as Spencer. He emerged handsome and confident, with a body that caused one older fan to say her teeth almost fell out of her mouth looking at him. If he is not returning as Spencer, fans will wish him well but miss him like crazy.
