Tristan Rogers and Wally Kurth

Sad news for daytime drama lovers

Tristan Rogers and Wally Kurth are each on two of the four remaining soaps. Kurth does double duty as Ned Wuartermaine on General Hisputal and Justin Kuriakis on Days of Our Lives. Rogers has been simultaneously portraying Colin on The Young and the Restless as well as Robert on General Hospital. Viewers enjoy their work but it’s possible they might not be seen for a while. Soap fans were hoping for the best while bracing for the worst when it came to the four remaining daytime drama programs. The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless ran out of new episodes and have been airing classic for the past month. Now, according to Soaps.com, Days of Our Lives, which tapes about eight months in advance will run out of original episodes in August. Fans of the NBC daytime drama will at least be able to watch new programming through the summer. Those who love General Hospital, however will not fare so well. The spoiler says that the ABC daytime drama will begin airing classic episodes on Monday June 15.

Like B&B and Y&R, GH tapes about 6 weeks in advance. All three soaps began showing classic episodes on Fridays in April, hoping that would keep things on track. The CBS programs ran out and have been showing classics for entire weeks. General Hospital continued to bring viewers new episodes and the action and drama was just heating up. No one could have imagined that the lock down would have gone on this long and now there does not seem to be an end in sight. Once things do get back on track, it will take close to two months of taping before viewers will see anything new on their television screens.

When everything is up and running, soap fans may need to brace themselves for some changes. Thus far only one daytime actor, Greg Rikaart, (Y&R, DOOL) tested positive for COVID-19. There probably will be from this point on more action and drama than love in the afternoons. The rpoducers and writers might decide to change things or life may have changed it for them. The actors themselves may not desire to be up close and personal with their cast mates out of concern for catching the coronavirus. Soap Opera's began with the premise of love and romance but now that might not be possible. No one wants to be put at risk and take home a disease to their family. Even if temperatures are taken and tests given, it takes about two weeks for the virus to show up.

CBS soaps storylines

The Bold and the Beautiful was just at the point of Sally being exposed as a liar. Dr. Escobar knocked Flo out with a lamp, just as Wyatt knocked at the door. Viewers have been wanting this situation to be resolved and now there is no clue when it will take place. On The Young and the Restless, it was close to time for Chloe to give birth to her baby and Adam was about to realize he murdered AJ Montalvo when he was 11. Fans are loving the classic episodes but by mid summer may tire of reruns. Some may have tuned in to General Hospital and Days of Our Lives but if this goes on much longer, they will not have any new programs to air either.

General Hospital

General Hospital is addressing several storylines that connect with each other. They all have to do with Wiley Quartermaine Corinthos. Brad is in jail because he took the blame for keeping the secret that Wiley was really Jonah. Obrecht is in jail because Peter framed her for murder and she delivered Nelle's baby. Julian is being blackmailed by Nelle, and Brook Lynn because he cut the brake line in Brad's vehicle and caused the car wreck. Chase and Sasha lied they slept together in order to get Michael and Willow to marry and several people know that secret. Once new shows stop taping, all of this will be put on hold.

Days of Our Lives

Days fans are wondering if Stefan Dimera is alive and pretending to be mechanic Jake. They also want to know why Abby is going off the rails and if someone is gaslighting her. Ciera has accepted Ben's ring to the shock of her mother and Dr.Rolph appears to be up to no good. Some soap fans thought that by days taping so far in advance there would be no chance of the NBC soap running out of episodes. No one had any clue how this pandemic would affect us all. Some viewers are wondering if the coronavirus will be the final nail in the coffin of daytime dram while others desperately hope this is not true.

Stay tuned

At this point, no one really knows what the future holds for any of us, daytime television included. Talk shows like Ellen and Wendy are being done from home and everything as we knew it has been turned upside down. Stay tuned for addition breaking news and spoiler alerts related to your favorite soaps. Until then, continue to enjoy the classics on Y&R and B&B. Keep watching new episodes on GH and DOOL for as long as they are available. There really is nothing else we can do, so stay tuned.
