From DC Movies To Disney Princess Films

In recent years, Disney has been on a kick where they have been obsessed with re-creating the classic Disney princess movies into live-action films. Each live-action Disney princess film is different. Some of them still include the songs, some don’t, and some add new ones. A few of the live-action Disney films that have been recreated from their original animation are Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan. Now, Disney is adding their very first full-length animated movie to the list. Coming to the big screen in live-action; Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

First released in 1938, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was ahead of its time. It holds a special place in Disney’s heart as the movie was what really launched Disney into the behemoth that it is now in the movie industry. One of Walt Disney’s favorite creations was Snow White. And while the animated child’s film is not really at all like the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale that it is based on, it has still captivated audiences for decades. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs proved to the movie industry at the time that it could create a full-length animated feature that was successful. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs also had songs written by Frank Churchill and Leigh Harline nominated for an Oscar. The movie revolutionized animation, particularly colored animation, sound and music in a feature film.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs became one of the most used settings in Disneyland, even inspiring one of the original rides. It also is prominently shown in the architectural design of the Disney Animation studio lot. Along with the song nominations, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs did win a special Academy Award for the significant screen contributions that it made. And along with the big Oscar statuette, Disney was also given seven miniature statuettes.

Now, Disney is bringing the magic of the classic animated story to life in live-action with Gal Gadot coming in to play one of the most iconic Disney villains: The Evil Queen.

Gal Gadot, most notably known for her role as Wonder Women in the DC universe, is currently in final negotiations with Disney for her role as The Evil Queen in the live-action adaption. According to Deadline, the studio execs had their eye on Gal Gadot playing The Evil Queen from the beginning. After the scheduling around other projects was worked out, a deal for a contract was closed.

Rachel Zegler, who has been cast as Maria in the soon-to-be-released West Side Story, is confirmed to be playing Snow White herself. Marc Webb is the director and Marc Platt is the producer.

But definitely one of the most exciting things is that, unlike Mulan and Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will have the original music, including some new tunes written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul who wrote the music for La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen. So, we are getting another Disney princess film with the music in the story.

There are reports that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will begin their production phase in 2022. Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date for this film yet. Other than that, we don’t really know much about this film yet. However, now that the casting is starting to be announced, we may hear some more news soon.

But in the meantime, if you are really itching to see Gal Gadot in something new, the next film she is, where she stars opposite Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, is Netflix’s action-comedy Red Notice. She is also producing Cleopatra at Paramount, as well as acting in Death on the Nile and Netflix’s Heart of Stone.
