Disney+ Day had some very exciting announcements for superhero fans, Star Wars fans, nostalgic movie/show fans, and Disney princess fans. But one of the most exciting updates for fans of the Disney princess movies was a more detailed announcement of the highly anticipated movie, Disenchanted.

Disenchanted is the sequel to Disney’s 2007 Enchanted movie. The movie follows the story of a princess, Giselle (played by Amy Adams), who falls from her fairy tale world into our world. She is taken in by Patrick Dempsey’s character, Robert Philip, and his daughter. The film has singing and dancing and is a hilarious tale of a ditzy princess who believes in true love’s kiss.

For years, fans of the movie have been calling for a sequel, and now Disney is finally giving us one. The film was greenlit way back in 2010, however, through a series of circumstances, wasn’t officially started with pre-production or production until recently. The filming for Disenchanted officially wrapped up in August of this year.

The film has brought back almost all the original cast, which is one of the most exciting things for this sequel. Many sequels, especially ones that come so much later, don’t always bring back the same people. But Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey and the creative team made sure that that would not be the case. Not only are Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey returning for their roles as Giselle and Robert, but James Marsden is returning for his role as the clueless Prince Edward, Idina Menzel is returning as Prince Edward’s love, Nancy, and Susan Sarandon’s Queen Narissa will return as well.

According to a statement by Amy Adams, this sequel is more of a straightforward musical than the original Enchanted was. Enchanted did have some songs, many of which are very popular and very catchy, but they functioned as more of a parody amidst the "cartoonish to live-action" setting change.

Along with many of the original cast returning, there are new roles as well. One of the members of the main cast who is not coming back is Rachel Covey for the role of Morgan, Robert’s daughter. Instead, Morgan will be played by Gabby Baldacchino. Maya Rudolph is also joining the cast this time around. All we know is that she will be playing a villain, but we don’t know specifics. Whoever she does play, it is sure to be just as good a villain as Susan Sarandon’s villain role in the original movie.

Disney, unfortunately, did not give us a specific release date for Disenchanted, much to the dismay of fans. However, they did announce that that date will be in Fall 2022. In the meantime, however, if you are itching for a feel good hilarious princess movie parody, Enchanted was released on Disney+ and is available for streaming now.

Below is the announcement video that Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey made for Disney+ Day, as well as, Disney+’s official announcement showing the title and the release time window.

Among other announcements that Disney made for Disney+ Day is an exciting one for a Princess Tiana series on Disney+, as well as original series for Baymax, the lovable white robot, a live action Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks, and another very much anticipated sequel movie: Hocus Pocus 2. There are also multiple original Disney+ movies and several series coming out based on books. Of course, included in the announcements was those for the Star Wars and Marvel series coming to Disney+. Including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ms Marvel, and Agatha: House of Harkness, just to name a very few that were announced.

Disney+ has a full set of shows and movies announced for the coming year and in the future. Be on the lookout for more news here at Culture Slate regarding these announcements as Disney slowly gives their fans enticing details.
