The Boy and the Heron Official trailer

If you're anything like me, you grew up with the infatuation of animated, whimsical movies. More specifically, Hayao Miyazaki films, and then expanding to the whole GKIDS studio films.

Here I compiled a superb short list of titles, some of which, are recent releases from the last few years! So, please enjoy, share, and be sure to follow for more!

Starting off strong with the new Hayao Miyazaki title:

1. The boy and the Heron

You may have viewed the trailer previously, or heard some tid-bits on social media. However, if you missed out here's a brief summary- Transpire into a whimsical land testing the boundaries of life and death along with young Mahito.

Shortly after the disappearance of his step mother, a gray heron shows up, as well as a series of other strange occurrences. What will Mahito discover when he decides to follow this creature?

2. The Deer King (Shika no Ao)

Forewarning: Shika no Ao is a rated R film in some countries due to it's depictions of blood, war, and violence. Viewer discretion is advised!

Shika no Ao, is actually much similar to the story and themes of Princess Mononoke in my opinion. Ossam dogs infiltrate an enslavement camp, wiping out everyone in the mines. Except Van, a former warrior, and Yuna, an orpahned child he decides to take under his wing. As they begin their new journey together, in desperation to survive, they continue to be hunted by various parties. What must they want with them, and does it have to do with Van and Yuna's newly discovered abilities?

3. Weathering With You

Another forewarning; Weathering With You has some depictions of use of guns, and harassment. Viewer discretion is advised!

Weathering With You is about a teenage boy that runs away from home to Tokyo. In this whimsical, otherworldly depiction of Japan, rain can fall upwards, and there are magical Sunshine girls that can wish away the rain! But what happens when the Sunshine girl uses her powers too frequently? Better watch and find out!

4. Lonely Castle in the Mirror

A student named Kokoro is subject to harsh bullying and harassment. Nowhere is safe, not even home... One day while Kokoro is doing homework she notices her mirror glowing, as if to open up as a portal to another dimension. She cautiously hops in, only to find a magnificent castle, and it's host, a mysterious girl with a strange wolf mask! What does she have in store for poor Kokoro?

5. Children who chase Lost Voices

After accidentally activating an old radio her father gave her, strange creatures and occurrences show up. A boy named Shun, then unknowingly drags Asuna on a perilous journey to a long forgotten land bound to surpass her very imagination, turning her once melodic life into an intricate requiem.

6. Goodbye, Don Glees

Three misfit pre-teen boys named Toto, Drop, and Roma, band together as the "Don Glees". Together they share everyday adventure in the attempt to hold tight to their youth. Before entering high school, Drop insists on one very important and final adventure.. One that will change their lives forever.

7. Nadia: The Secret of the Blue Water

A teenage inventor, Jean, meets Nadia, a mysterious girl that possesses a powerful blue gem that is heavily sought after. The pair team up to travel by sea and sky to escape the nefarious gangs chasing them. Later they discover the secrets of this crystal named Blue Water and why they must now save the world from it's own destruction!
