The best-laid plans

They say there is an audience for everything and old-school television is becoming pretty popular thanks to syndication and retro networks. MeTV has just announced that they will be airing episodes of the hit 1990's television series Full House beginning Sunday, January 23rd 2022 at 2:00 PM EST. The network had planned on introducing the sitcom in February but the death of Bob Saget on January 9 led them to move more quickly.

After 99-old-Betty White passed away on December 31 plans to celebrate her 100th birthday on January 17 were derailed. In the aftermath, grocery stores and drug stores were filled with magazines where the actress graced their covers and was wished a happy 100th birthday she never lived to see. This brings to mind the old adage about the best-laid plans of mice and men.

Full House tribute to Bob Saget

There were 4 Full House episodes that aired on Sunday, January 16 from 2-4 PM in honor of Bob Saget who recently died. This led to some fans saying they would like to see the popular series on MeTV and now their wish will be coming true. If any television series is memorable and gives that warm fuzzy feeling the hit sitcom about the Tanner's and extended family is it. A sequel series, Fuller House, premiered on Netflix on February 26, 2016, and ran for five successful seasons with most of the original cast and concluded on June 2, 2020.

Full House continues to appeal to fans

Saget as Danny Tanner the widowed father of three daughters along with his pal Joey (Dave Coulier) and brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) captured the hearts of the viewers each week. The series was never a hit with critics but was consistently in the top 30 of the Nielsen rating from 1988 until it ended. Full House is aired internationally and continues to gain popularity in syndicated reruns. and is also aired internationally.

Coulier, once said the show represented a "G-rated dysfunctional family" and Dennis Rinsler, who was one of the producers called the series "The Brady Bunch of the 1990s". Thanks to the Internet, streaming services, and retro networks Full House fans can continue to enjoy the programs that they remember and love. Baby boomers (those born between 1948-1964) and their children watched the antics of the Tanner clan together and now new generations can fall in love with the series.

MeTV fills a void

On social media platforms devoted fans say they welcome MeTV and this blast from the past which is wholesome and family-oriented as opposed to today's sexually explicit profanity-filled programming that often cannot be viewed with the children. MeTV fills a void for television viewers who desire a family-oriented sitcom they can enjoy without wondering what foul words may come forth or how scantily clad an actor or actress may be.

MeTV was launched as a programming block on January 6, 2003, on independent television station WFBT-CA (channel 23) in Chicago, Illinois. The block initially aired for three hours from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., before expanding to seven hours a day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m by 2004. The shows that were featured were a mixture of series from the 1950s to the 1980s.

On November 22, 2010, MeTV became a full-fledged retro network airing blasts from the past that viewers crave. The only original programming that airs is Svenghoolie where B grade movies from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s are shown, and Toon in with Me which airs classic cartoons that viewers adore. Be sure you tune in on Sunday, January 23 to catch the first episode of Full House when the series debuts..
