'Don’t Worry Darling' could have been a stronger film if it chose a distinct twist of events.

Something about this world doesn’t feel weird to you?

Don’t Worry Darling is a 2022 film. A housewife is living happily with her husband in a 1950s Utopian setting. Experiencing strange occurrences, Alice learns that this community may not be the peaceful living quarters as it turns out.

I was thinking about Don’t Worry Darling the whole car ride home from the theater. I thought the film was going to have a much different turnout with the direction it was going. Don’t Worry Darling could have been a stronger film if it chose a distinct twist of events.

Florence Pugh has established that she is a tremendous actress. It’s amazing how well she transpires into utter hysteria. Her performance is the best part of Don’t Worry Darling. If the film took a contrasting approach, it would have intricated more to Alice’s behaviors. Alice has visions and does strange things leading to a mental crisis.

The supporting cast deserved more evolution to their characters. It’s evident that they’re going along with their direction, instead of manifesting the personalities of their characters. Harry Styles (Jack) is charming in his performance. Pugh and Styles had great romantic chemistry. Aside from that, not much else transpires with his character.

Frank (Chris Pine) had a lot of depth, but it was wasted. In my opinion, Frank should have been Jack’s character. They felt like the same character, only in two different bodies.

The same goes for Bunny (Olivia Wilde). Bunny knows more than the other women in the neighborhood. More credits include KiKi Layne, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, and other small parts had wasted potential

I would like to know what happened in scenes involving Margaret (Layne) which ended up being cut. Experiencing a similar breakdown to Alice, her character disappears. I liked this character. She would have changed the entire film if we knew more about Margaret.

Don’t Worry Darling is a visually inceptive film. Matching a 1950s setting, the locations, costumes, and cars are eye-catching. The Exterior and interior of the house's layouts are beautiful. But, there is something off with how nice everything looks.

The visuals overload the feature of any story. An abnormal soundtrack floats throughout the background at several key moments whenever Alice has a realization.

As gorgeous and eerie as the film looks, the film should have acquired a better setup as to what its story was presenting. It’s evident that Olivia Wilde was focused on one thing and that was Alice and all the repetitive effects. No really, we see the same effects of these women dancers anytime Alice is having one of her delusions.

Don’t Worry Darling has no substance. It occupies themes about women's empowerment and mental health. Films about the 50s have important topics of discussion, but that is hardly touched upon either. Compared to today, our societies were two contrasting eras. That’s all ignored in the film.

I thought Don’t Worry Darling was going to be a psychological film. With its format, it certainly looked like it. While the twist in its story was interesting, it wasn’t planned out right. Taking place in a Utopian setting, characters perform the same tasks every day. That’s not touched upon! It wastes all the ideas that the film is replenished with.

Aside from its flaws, you should still see Don’t Worry Darling. It is a daring film. Avoid all the drama that has warranted from the production. As confusing as the film is, one can come up with several theories about all the messages. Go out and see it.
