As Hollywood grinds to a halt and the coronavirus turns itself into a Thanos-sized villain of the summer holidays, the industry's slate of superhero movies has been "snapped" from existence. While we should've been getting pumped for Black Widow and what comes next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, COVID-19 has upturned Disney's well-laid plans.

Alongside this, Amy Pascal's Spider-Verse of movies based on Peter Parker and his various rogues has also taken a hit. With the likes of Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage being caught in a sticky web of delays, comic book fans had better settle in for the long haul. With this in mind, here's an updated release schedule for EVERY Marvel movie (hopefully) coming to a cinema near you.

Black Widow

Disney

Original release: May 1, 2020

New release: November 6, 2020

Starting off with what should be the first release once all this is blown over, Cate Shortland's Black Widow is finally opening the door to the Red Room and giving us an insight into what makes Natasha Romanoff tick.

Following Black Widow's dramatic demise in Avengers: Endgame, we'll have to wait and see whether this is really the end of the line for Scarlett Johansson in the MCU. With the long-awaited prequel introducing the likes of Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova/second Black Widow and David Harbour's comedic turn as Red Guardian, there's sure to be a twist to the tale somewhere.

The Eternals

Marvel Comics

Original release: November 6, 2020

New release: February 12, 2021

While James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy was pegged as a big risk for the MCU, it's much of the same with the out-there concept of Chloé Zhao's The Eternals. Blasting off into the cosmos to tell the story of an age-old battle between space beings, The Eternals has nabbed an impressive cast of Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, and Game of Thrones alumni Richard Madden and Kit Harington.

The likes of Harington's Black Knight are poised to have a crucial role in the franchise's larger plans, and with The Eternals bringing the first openly gay superhero to the MCU, this is one to watch. With the Thanos creator Jim Starlin also telling ComicBook.com Young Thanos could make an appearance, this is more than your standard outer space team-up.

Morbius

Sony

Original release: July 10, 2020

New release: March 19, 2021

After Venom blew its critics away, Sony quickly powered ahead with its own Spider-Verse of Peter Parker-free movies. Up next, Jared Leto is spreading his wings for Moribus. Sadly, a delay of nearly a year means this news really "sucks"

The trailer to Daniel Espinosa's movie has only left us more confused about where Morbius fits into the MCU (if at all) thanks to the jaw-dropping return of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes. The villainous Vulture was last seen behind bars in Spider-Man: Homecoming - teasing he could be part of a Sinister Six movie with Morbius and co. in tow. Whatever your views, it looks like Morbius is destined to become part of the MCU.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Marvel Comics

Original release: February 12, 2021

New release: May 7, 2021

Another movie pushing the boat out when it comes to diversity is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The bold hybrid of kung fu and superhero movie could be the "new" Black Panther in terms of representation away from the white male-dominated days of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America.

Picking up the controversial Mandarin storyline from Iron Man 3 means Destin Daniel Cretton has his work cut out to reintroduce the famed Marvel villain. Much like the key players of The Eternals, Simu Liu's titular Shang-Chi is tipped for big things following his introduction.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Sony

Original release: October 2, 2020

New release: June 25, 2021

Tom Hardy is ready to rock out with his "Brock" out as he once again suits up as Eddie Brock. Thanks to Venom's tantalizing post-credits tease, it doesn't take a genius to figure out where the story is going in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Venom might've not been the R-rated massacre some hoped for, but with Woody Harrelson's psychotic Carnage sharing joint-billing on the sequel, there's going to be some serious bloodshed.

While Sony has downplayed the idea of Tom Holland stopping by for a Spider-Man cameo, it's only a matter of time before Sony's Spider-Verse lures the young star in for an appearance.

Spider-Man 3

Disney

Original release: February 12, 2021

New release: November 5, 2021

No, not the Sam Raimi movie from 2007 but the (currently untitled) Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel. Now that Sony and Disney have settled their sibling rivalry and put the toys back in the pram, the Tom Holland-led threequel is finally back on track.

Although there are literally no details on what to expect, both studios seems to be heading toward some sort of Sinister Six movie. With Holland cued to form a line-up of New Avengers, his Spidey trilogy is sure to come to a close with a pretty huge adventure. If nothing else, at least we'll probably get to see more of J.K Simmons as J.J. Jameson!

Thor: Love and Thunder

Disney

Original release: February 18, 2022

New release: February 11, 2022

There is some good news in all this madness as Taiki Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder has actually been bumped forward. Love is in the air with a new pre-Valentine's release for the Thor: Ragnarok follow-up.

It's a jam-packed who's who of Thor favorites as Chris Hemsworth picks up his hammer to be joined by Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie and the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Waititi is again breaking new ground with Portman's female Thor and Valkyrie searching for her queen to add some LGBTQ+ representation.

Hemsworth described the script as "one of the best" he's read in years to the The Philadelphia Inquirer, and with Ragnarok being held as a jewel in the crown, it's easy to imagine what Waititi has in store. With talk of space sharks and the potential debut of Beta Ray Bill, you're right to be excited for what's in store with Thor: Love and Thunder.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Disney

Original release: November 5, 2021

New release: March 25, 2022

With a certain wall-crawler occupying the space previously held by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to Scott Derrickson's 2016 movie has had to find a new home. Sam Raimi is on board to take the reins on what could be one of the most ambitious movies to grace the MCU.

Alongside the bizarre (but amazing) inclusion of Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, MoM is also said to be the franchise's first "horror". With Raimi hopefully leaning on the Multiverse aspect of the movie's title name, Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme could be joined by a few more familiar faces from his past.

Either way, fans have to face the grim prospect that Multiverse of Madness has slipped into 2022.

Black Panther 2

Disney

Original release: May 6, 2022

New release: Unaffected

Practice your dancing because it's back to Wakanda for Black Panther 2. Ryan Coogler is back in the director's chair to give T'Challa another round in the spotlight. Given the record-breaking success of the first movie, there's a lot of pressure on Black Panther 2 to perform.

Apart from the return of Chadwick Boseman as the vibranium-clawed hero, nothing is known about his highly-anticipated sequel. Rumors suggest everyone from Kraven to Doctor Doom could be the big bad, so watch this space.

Captain Marvel 2

Disney

Original release: July 8, 2022

New release: Unaffected

Brie Larson's mohawked heroine is bringing up the rear of the MCU with Captain Marvel 2. Despite the polarizing reception of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's first movie, there's no escaping the importance of Carol Danvers' place in the MCU.

Apart from presumably hopping forward from its '90s setting to put Captain Marvel in the modern day, it's unclear what's else is in store for the superpowered Avenger. With Danvers being one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, it's no surprise Captain Marvel 2 is also rumored to put her at the front of the Avengers as the new team's potential head honcho.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2

Sony

Original release: April 8, 2022

New release: October 7, 2022

Even though Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is very much NOT part of the MCU or its expanded canon, that doesn't mean viewers aren't rightly hyped for its sequel. As well as giving Miles Morales the story he deserves, 2018's amazing animation won an Academy Award and was green lit for a sequel before you could say, "Go web go."

The first movie was so popular, it even prompted Holland to pitch his own ambitious plans for a live-action version with himself, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is only in its early stages, but this one's sure to be a big hitter for Sony.

---

Both Disney and Sony are committed to their vision of rolling out multiple Marvel movies each year. The above list is comprehensive for the moment but doesn't take into account confirmed but dateless movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the Blade reboot, and Sony's Madame Web standalone.

While COVID-19 has us beaten for now, expect the two powerhouse studios to go full Endgame and rise from the ashes to make everything right again in the world. I'll fetch the popcorn!
