Streaming wars have been going on for a few years but recently with the Pandemic it has shifted to becoming the primary method of film consumption and every streamer including Disney is looking to gain the edge.

Disney made a move internationally to include Star in its packages and I shared 5 series that are worth a watch or rewatch and now it's time to look at 5 films that the streamer offers as an alternative to watching the same children's movies over and over.

5. Dodgeball- This film is 17 years old now but still everytime a reference is made I chuckle and think back to how hilarious this movie was. A who's who of comedy during that period of time the cast excels in creating this offbeat comedy that has a heart of its own. Vaughn and Stiller are the perfect leads and the film runs on the obscure jokes and scenarios that occur. This one would be one worthy of plenty of rewatches and it sure is hard to believe this is only 3 years out from turning 20.

4. Bad Times at the El Royale- The most Tarantino-esque film that Tarantino did not write and direct this film plays as a mystery and then ramps up the tension in the final act. Led by Jon Hamm, Jeff Bridges and Dakota Johnson it does have a lot of talent on display and adequately uses them all to further progress the story to its final act with very little flaws in between. A well written script with seasoned veteran actors that are more than capable of delivering the emotional responses along with the absurd moments that are believable within this self contained story.

3. 127 Hours- Based on the harrowing real life experience of mountain climber Aron Ralston this movie is realistic and hard to watch at times as the 127 hours play out filled with tension and decision making that is hard to face. James Franco plays Ralston in this film and it's probably the single best performance of his career from a dramatic stand point. He's really the only actor who gets a serious amount of screen time so if you despise him this probably isn't for you. I understand given some of the things that have been spoken about him why that would be, but the story at the heart of the film makes it worthy of a watch.

2. 28 Days/Weeks Later- This is a two for one and another series that is hard to believe is almost 20. Such a brilliant new addition to the zombie lore at the time of release; both films are masterpieces of the horror genre and provide fans with enough horror set pieces to appease them. Each has a talented cast. Days has stars such as Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris while Weeks stars known actors such as Jeremy Renner, Idris Elba and Rose Byrne. If you haven't already seen them and are fans of those actors taking this stroll down memory lane may add to the fun. If you have already watched them celebrating how brilliant they are may just be in the cards as a plan.

1.500 Days of Summer- Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel are both perfect in this film that spans the 500 days of their relationship and it is presented in a non linear manner so we feel every bit of that relationship as the film jumps from happy to sad to many other feelings. One of the most complete films you can find from a storytelling perspective. An impressive supporting cast as well including a young and sarcastic Chloe Grace Moretz, Matthew Gray Gubler (who famously injured himself on the set of this movie and it can be seen throughout his performance on Criminal Minds. It had to be written into that show) along with Clark Gregg and Yvette Nicole Brown. It's nostalgic now in a way to see this film and relive these moments with the characters as if you are telling the stories of a time in your own past. This movie has aged well.

It's nice to see Disney+ attempting to connect with the audiences that made their classics as big of a hit as they were. A lot of these movies defined my viewing experience as I was a teenager during these years and the Disney classics from the early to mid 90s defined my childhood. It's relieving to have all of this one convenient location so my kids can one day enjoy them all too.
