Maahra Hill will star in Delilah

Oprah Winfrey and Craig Wright promised Greenleaf fans a spin-off which implied that some of the cast possibly would be involved in a new show. Interviews were given where Craig Wright and Lynn Whitfield teased that Lady Mae would come into her own, on the new series. Fans as well as the cast have been speculating about the new show and articles written about possibilities. A promo aired during the Greenleaf season finale which said, “ Delilah” coming soon". There was never anything officers al that indicated that this new show would be a Greenleaf spin-off but the timing of the announcement seemed to suggest it.

Many fans expressed concern on social media that the title of the program seemed to imply that Lady Mae was going to be taken down a dark path. There was much speculation on what the new series would be about and now there is news. TV Line is revealing that “ “Delilah” will not be a Greenleaf spin-off but an entirely unrelated series. Along with Oprah and Craig Wright, Charles Randolph-Wright will also be an executive producer. Together the trio will tell the story of Delilah Connolly (Maahra Hill), who is a lawyer living in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This character will be raising two children while juggling faith, family ties, and friendship. Delilah will be an attorney who seeks justice for the least of these and battle the rich and powerful who desire to stop her. The cast will also include Susan Heyward who is Delilah’s newly-hired associate Demetria Barnes, and Ozioma Akagha who will portray secretary Harper Conant. Charles Randolph-Wright (Greenleaf) and Cheryl Dunye, (Queen Sugar) will direct the series. At a later date. additional contributors will be announced.

This answers the question of what Delilah is about but does not address an actual Greenleaf spin-off. Until further notice, those who enjoyed the original series can only watch and wait. Craig Wright did specifically say there was a new series coming that would feature Lady Mae so fans must be patient until news comes forth. On social media, some of those who were expecting a spin-off series have expressed they are disappointed and believe that Oprah and Craig Wright were deceptive as nothing about new show was revealed, until now. It was never stated that "Delilah" was the spin-off but the Greenleaf creators are guilty of the sin of omission.

Certainly, they knew that some Greenleaf devotees would assume two programs were related. At any rate, the confusion has been cleared up and TV Line indicates that "Delilah" is expected to debut in 2021. OWN president Tina Perry was quoted as saying, “On the heels of the incredible success story of Greenleaf, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Craig on this compelling new drama,” "Our viewers are going to deeply relate to this story that focuses on a powerful woman committed to her family and her community."

The issue is that Greenleaf fans were expecting the powerful woman in the new series to be either Lady Mae or Grace Greenleaf. It would be a good idea for Craig Wright or Tina Perry to address this issue that is causing so much confusion. "Delilah" will probably do pretty good in the ratings, but this new series will not satisfy those who wanted more of Mae, Grace, Charity, Jacob, and the rest of the family that 2 million viewers have come to know and love over the past 5 years. OWN, please tell us once and for all if there will indeed be an actual spin-off featuring the Greenleaf family. It's the least you can do for those who tuned in each Tuesday night and made the show a hit.
