Dean Winters: Meet “Mayhem” ‘the Allstate guy

The talented actor has gained new fans who love his ads for the insurance company.

Dean Winters is Mayhem

If you watch network television then you have more than likely seen "Mayhem" who is the Allstate Insurance company’s answer to Jake from Statefarm. This comical character is portrayed by actor Dean Winters and in each televised ad he acts out examples of various predicaments where Allstatemay be needed by drivers to protect them from "Mayhem”. The insurance mascot often finds himself in dangerous situations and is seen looking disheveled with a bruised face and a bandage on his cheek.

In the latest ad Mayhem, the Allstate mascot is dancing down a street doing hip hop moves. He announces that he is the latest hashtag challenge and he will get tens and tens of views ( Rather than hundreds of thousands or millions). A male driver is watching him instead of the road and drives into the back of a truck. This should serve as a serious warning for safe driving and not being distracted. The commercial is hilarious although addressing a serious matter.

Winters has an impressive career

Dean Gerard Winters is an American character actor who was born on July 20, 1964, and whose career began in 1995. He is married to Kathleen Coen and they have 3 children. He is the brother of actor Scott Winters who appeared in Good Will Hunting and Jay and Silent Bob Strike back. Winters is of Irish, and Italian descent and has been in more than 60 films and television series.

You may recognize his face because Winters portrayed Ryan O'Reily on the HBO prison drama Oz and had roles in TV series 30 Rock, Sex and the City, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Rescue Me. He was the recurring character “The Vulture” on the comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine and appeared in one season of the police drama Battlecreek. His film roles include The Devil You Know, Conspiracy Theory, Undercover Angel, Snipes, P.S. I Love You, and Jon Wick.

Mayhen reigns

According to Looper the Allstate “ Mayhem” commercials are exceptional in the world of advertising. The collection of ads are considered to be some of the most successful campaigns in recent years. The popularity of Mayhem is believed to be the combination of deadpan humor along with the violent," Jackass-style set pieces "that illustrate and emphasize the importance of a reliable, dependable insurance company.

These ads address subjects that most people don’t like to think about and some may even choose to ignore. The real reason this works is the talent od Winters who definitely is the right man for the job. Viewers find themselves enjoying the humor of each commercial and looking forward to finding out what this character will do next. will do next during breaks when they are watching TV.

Dean Winters serious health challenges

When you see Winters as Mayhem you would never know that behind the humor that he had suffered a severe health crisis or that he once actually died. In June 2009, the actor had a fever and was not feeling well. He went to his doctor the next day and collapsed upon arriving at the office. He was taken by ambulance to Lenox Hill Hospital, and on the way, his heart stopped for two and a half minutes.

Paramedics were able to revive him, but he ended up spending three weeks in intensive care because of a serious bacterial infection. During the following year, he spent 95 days in the hospital and had 10 operations including a skin graph. Winters developed gangrene, which led to the amputation of half of one thumb, and two toes. Thankfully he became back strong, does not look like what he has been through, and continues to entertain his fans. Be on the lookout for Mayhem the next time there is a television commercial.
