Day of Our Lives: Fans wonder about the fate of Father Eric

Days of Our Lives fans are not too fond of possession storylines but they do like to figure out what is coming next. Now that Greg Vaughn has wrapped up his 2 days stint in Salem as Eric Brady some viewers are wondering if and when he will return. Some spoilers have teased that he might fall for Nicole Walker (Ari Zucker) again but there is another reason Father Brady may be needed to return to hsi hometown.

On New Year's Eve, it was revealed that Satan entered Johnny DiMerra (Carson Boatman) after he was driven out of Marlena Evans Black (Deidra Hall). Once this reality comes to light someone will have to perform another exorcism and Eric would be the logical choice. Some Days of Our Lives viewers want to see Marlena and Roman Brady's (Josh Taylor) son remain in Salem but there is not much for a priest to do unless he falls from grace with a woman. DOOL has been there done that with Nicole and Kristen DiMera (Eileen Davidson/ Stacy Haiduck) and no one wants to see this revisited.

Greg Vaughn speaks out about Eric

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest Vaughn said he was surprised that his character went back into the priesthood. “I thought I closed that door and left it behind me,” he muses. “But I do see the purpose and the reason. It’s not the main focal point, but it was a good reason to come back and for me to revisit everybody after Covid and the shutdown. It was fun and it helped kind of kick-start the story again.”

He added that he enjoyed working with Zucker again because they have chemistry between them and that he loved catching up with the cast members he had not seen since his last stint on DOOL in July.

Vaughan was recast as Eric in 2012 and says he’s excited about playing out the next chapter of his character's story. The actor said he desires this journey to be interesting and that. Days of Our Lives has been an integral part of who he is. He says he wants to see growth in Eric but it's not clear what the writers can do with the character. Outside of his fornicating with Nicole or Kristen and casting out devils fans are also curious about how the priest can fit into everyday society in Salem.

Days of Our Lives: Eric will be needed in Salem

Perhaps Eric will be like Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) brother Father Todd (Corbin Bernson) on The Young and the Restless. He popped up every now and again when someone needed confession or to perform a wedding. Sometimes he simply gave advice or listened to his sibling. Father Eric could be on call for the various needs that would come up for his loved ones. He might also spend time at the hospital visiting the sick.

It will be interesting to see if Days of Our Lives does develop Eric outside of the aforementioned possibilities. For anything else, he would have to be defrocked again which defeats the purpose of his going back into the priesthood. Viewers will be watching to see if there is a place in Salem for Sami Brady DiMera's (Alison Sweeney) twin and whether or not he will be the one to rid her son of the devil. Spoilers are suggesting that Sami and Lucas Roberts Horton are going to leave town together so she may not even be around when Johnny needs her the most.
