How 'Game Of Thrones' Changed My Life

There are some things that come and go in your life. Things you like. Books. TV shows. Movies. Some stay with you the rest of your life. And others wiggles their way into your existences to the point at which you can no longer remember what it was like without it.

    The Red Wedding

    The Red Wedding

The Red Wedding. It did something to me. Emotionally, mentally, physically. No television show has ever evoked that sort of reaction from me. It was brutally brutal.

    Home

    Home

It’s a dreary January, too cold to go outside and no money to do anything fun. We stew in the flat, occasionally leaving for the odd hour of uni and then back to our box rooms, waiting for the grey skies to thaw and spring to come. TV channels empty, books all read. Tensions simmer like the tomato soup on the hob. We snap at each other—the fights becoming more frequent, more pointless. Who hasn’t washed up their dishes? Who’s turn it is to take the bins out?

When I Play the Game of Thrones, I Bewilder My Friends

When I Play the Game of Thrones, I Bewilder My Friends

It all began for me with two of my best friends and my cousin back in 2017. All three of them convincing me in their own cunning ways to start binge watching this "magnum opus" of a series. Only then, I treated it as a regular show with a small fan base backing it up with a desperate promotional campaign. Well folks… As you might have probably guessed, I decided to have a go and I WAS WRONG!

    8 Weeks Later...

    8 Weeks Later...

Eight years ago, I was only 11 years old. I had never even heard of Game of Thrones before, and it wasn’t until late 2016/early 2017 that it really took off with my peers and I rarely saw it in the mainstream media as I just didn’t take any interest, nor did I really notice it until I saw it pop up in my Tumblr feed one day. I thought it looked decently interesting, so I checked out the first episode but within the first five, I closed the window. It looked like the most boring show on the planet! I gave it a couple more shots here and there, but ultimately, I left it and forgot about it.
