Billy gave Summer a pass on The Young and the Restless

Tuesday on The Young and the Restless, Billy Abbott apologized for hurting Summer by rejecting her after they slept together. A number of viewers have wondered why their night of passion had been swept under the rug for so long. Some thought it would come to light at a time when the revelation would have Victor, Nick, and Victoria on the warpath. At this point, now that Summer has accepted the apology, they can both move on. Even if the Newman’s found out it probably would not cause the damage now that it once would have.

Nick might drop Phyllis like a hot potato if he found out she hid this secret about their daughter. He would probably punch Billy in the face. It seems like this might be closure and the matter not mentioned again. Viewers were impressed when accepted all responsibility while talking to Lily. Kyle still feels some kind of way about his uncle and Lily was clearly rattled initially. What was not addressed is the fact that Summer is the one who made the first move when she went after her own mother’s boyfriend. Some viewers believe Ms. Newman got exactly what she deserved. Addressing the situation now seems to be all about rehabilitating Billy and making him worthy of Lilly. Summer practically threw herself at Billy and was relentless in her efforts.

She would walk around her mother’s apartment in her negligee and put her body in his face whenever she could. Billy tried to put her off but she would not give up. She bragged to Kyle that she was going to bed her mother’s lover and showed no shame about it. She knew Kyle had feelings for her and she brought up her plans for his uncle, every chance she got. Summer was a consenting adult and should never have sought to hurt her mother that way. Where was Summer’s apology for seducing the man her mother loved? Why does Kyle not recall how she gave him a play by play of her night with Billy? Yes, it was cruel of Mr. Abbott to sleep with with his fiancée’s daughter, then kick her to the curb. He knew Summer had feelings for him and he should have been more responsible as the older adult.

If Billy explained to Lily that Summer pursued him it must have been off camera. It’s looking like The Young and the Restless is finally trying to redeem Billy Abbott. One year ago there were rumors that he was on his way out of Genoa City and Jason Thompson off The Young and the Restless. Viewers will recallBilly was hallucinating and chewing gum all the time. He flirted with Amanda, quit his job at Jabot and seemed on the verge of a breakdown. He went to therapy but one issue that was never discussed was the role Victor and Victoria played in what happened. The Newman patriarch was always baiting his former son in law and Vicki is turning into a female version of her ruthless dad. There probably was no room for Billy to err or to change and grow with those two always breathing down his neck.

He did the right thing by apologizing to Summer but they were equally at fault. Billy led her to believe he cared and he only beded her to get back at Phyllis for sleeping with Nick. Billy should not have been surprised considering Phyllis cheated on Jack with him. Most Y& R fans are becoming invested in this new improved Billy and his relationship with Lily. Perhaps this time he will maintain his new attitude and not screw it up. Viewers noticed that Lily handeled the Summer situation pretty well and were impressed that Billy took responsibility. Perhaps had he expounded on how Summer pursued him he may have come across as blaming her. Even so, Summer did set this all in motion.

Summer accepted Billy’s apology but never offered one of her own but perhaps at this point it does not matter. It seems the big issue is that Billy used her and not the fact that they slept together: Both Summer and Kyle’s uncle seem to be maturing and making more adult decisions. Fans hope this continues and don’t desire to see either of them relapse. The writers having the four on the plane together was a good idea because some air was cleared. It’s alstroemerias good that Kyle is accompanying Summer to LA. This way, whatever she uncovers he will be her witness. Without Kyle in hand, Sally might try to spin things and make Summer look bad. Time will tell if Billy and Summer’s new attitudes will stick.
