You might have seen many people wearing hot pink or neon pink. It is the latest fashion trend for men, women, and children. Hot pink has been a popular color on the internet, on runways, and on the red carpet since the beginning of 2022. The trend is expected to last for at least one year. So, why is hot pink taking over the world of fashion?

"Barbiecore"

The hot pink fashion is based on a movie about Barbie, the iconic plastic doll that most people know about. Barbie's outfits of the 1980s were bubblegum pink. However, "Barbiecore" isn't bubblegum pink or just any other pink. It is a bright, vibrant trend defined by hot pink as the main color that is worn. It can be paired with other shades of pink.

Pink has always been Barbie's favorite color, according to Kim Culmone, SVP of Design for Barbie and Fashion Dolls. That's because it represents limitless potential and is a symbol of empowerment. It also adds boldness and fun for those who wear the color. The color can be worn from head to toe in hats, scarves, dresses, suits, pants, shoes, and socks.

Many people are on board and having fun with the trend. Currently, "Barbiecore" has 8.1 million views on TikTok. The views on Google, Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are increasing. Barbiecore hot pink fashion items on Etsy are up 35% in the last three months compared to last year. Sales are expected to increase more until the movie comes out.

There was a special fashion show on Good Morning America on Friday, July 15, 2022. Two women and one man wore hot pink that was appropriate for work and play. Bustle's SVP of Fashion Tiffany Reid commented on the hot pink looks and gave some valuable fashion tips.

Tips for Wearing Hot Pink

  • Wear different tones and textures to keep a playful look.
  • Wear a hot pink skirt suit to work in the office.
  • Men can mix and match casual pieces like hoodies and sweat shorts along with other pieces such as a crisp white button-down shirt.

Department stores and online retailers are capitalizing on the trend by having lots of hot pink clothes, shoes, and accessories available for shoppers who want to get in on the trend. Therefore, there is no shortage of hot pink. Anyone who wants to wear it can do so knowing that they will be in good company.

The "Barbie" Movie

The Barbie live-action movie will premiere on July 21, 2023. Fashion experts say people will continue to see hot pink everywhere up to the time the movie comes out and even much longer. The movie directed by Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Robbie is also producing the film. The plot of the movie is a "well-kept secret."
