The evolution of Marcus Taggert

Asante Jones has stepped into the role of Marcus Taggert once again on General Hospital. There has been quite an evolution to get him to this point and it begins with Real' Andrews originating the character on December 11, 1996. Matthew Saint-Patrick portrayed Taggert in 1997 and on January 17. 2020 Andrews returned.

He was written out of the role when the detective allegedly died on-screen on March 2 of that year. Andrews came back from August 19 to August 27, 2020, when Taggert was revealed to be alive. Fans were hoping the truth about Trina Robinson's (Sydney Makayla now Tabyana Ali) paternity would be revealed but Taggert did not get much air time and did not interact a lot with his daughter.

On October 7, 2020, Andrews posted on Instagram that he was back in Port Charles, and his episodes aired from October 29 to December 16, 2020. He was supposed to be living with Jordan Ashford (Briana Henry now Tanisha Harper) but the two were never seen together.

Asante Jones steps in

The actor announced that he had previously dealt with cancer but a doctor had given him a clean bill of health and the illness was in remission. When Jones temporarily replaced Andrews from December 17, 2020, until January 8, 2021, concerned fans began wondering if Andrews was sick or if cancer had returned.

Real was back from March 24 to March 31, 2021, but Asante took over the role as Taggert again on Monday, April 12. Andrews returned to General Hospital from April 20 to July 2, of that year and viewers were happy to see him. Fans were hoping the truth about Curtis Ashford being Trina Robinson's [Tabyana Ali) biological dad would be revealed but Taggert did not stick around.

Curtis seemed to be the one spending time with Trina especially after she was arrested for making the sex tape of Joss Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Cameron Webber (Will Lipton). Andrews as Taggert was shown once with Trina until Jones was in the pre-Valentine's day episode. Trina has been dealing with this situation for five months basically without the on=screen support of her dad but he is back for the trial.

The General Hospital 2022 curse

On January 28, 2022, it was announced that Jones was returning to General Hospital but he only portrayed Taggert for one episode on February 11, 2022. On February 14, 2022, Andrews announced that he had COVID but would soon be returning to GH. The actor is one of five cast members who were out due to COVID around the same time.

The others were Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne) Inga Cadrenal (Harmony Miller) Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) and Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall). Five other members of the cast have been out since January but all have returned except Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine)who is rumored to be retiring soon.

Fans have called it the General Hospital curse as the replacing of actors has continued now for seven months straight. There has been no news as to why Jones is replacing Andrews for the fourth time in two years but viewers are getting used to it.

Fans are hoping that nothing serious is going on with Real' Andrews and that he will soon be back as Taggert. In the meantime, viewers will enjoy seeing Asante Jones in the role one more time. Once the trial gets underway and the ABC soap decides to focus on Trina's paternity her father is going to be needed in Port Charles. Be on the lookout for updates related to Andrews as well as his General Hospital character.
