West Side Story (1961)

One story dance lovers need to watch is West Side Story. It has everything people love, from unforgettable musical numbers to beautiful lyrics surrounding love. This is especially important for folks who want to dance on Broadway one day.

The Nutcracker

Okay, there's been a lot of movies about The Nutcracker. One was released back in 2018, but there are many more, so you can take your pick. This story has become part of popular culture. Everyone knows about this ballet and usually connects it to the holidays. The story is unforgettable, and the dance numbers are incredibly delicate, no matter which movie version you see.

Footloose (1984)

This movie is set in some strange town that outlaws dancing and everything dealing with it. Some brave people start dancing to change people's minds. The plot is a little off-kilter, but that doesn't take away from this incredibly enjoyable movie. If you believe dance is a superpower, this movie will enforce this belief. The soundtrack is unforgettable, and it's also an iconic 80s film.

Black Swan (2010)

Dance movies don't always have to be fun and perky, like some others mentioned here. Some dance movies tickle the dark side of people's hearts, and an excellent example of that is the Black Swan. The film stars Natalie Portman and follows a few ballerinas trying to make it big in this business. It's a disturbing movie with some beautiful dance numbers. Darkness and dance may not blend easily, but this movie made it work.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Dirty Dancing stars Patrick Swayze in one of his most iconic films. The movie can capture the spirit of the 80s in one crazy but beautiful movie. The soundtrack is almost as unforgettable as some of the movie scenes. The movie showcases how empowering dancing can be and how it can help you free yourself from the shell you've been hiding in. There's a lot to love about Dirty Dancing, and it should be on your watch list.

Save the Last Dance (2001)

If you want a dance movie that tries to blend different music genres into something unique, consider Save the Last Dance. The movie combines Hip hop and the music you might expect in ballet. It also tells the story of two people who fall in love with each other despite their differences, not that they ignore these differences; they embrace these aspects of themselves. Here, dance becomes a great unifying power that the world needs so badly.

Magic Mike (2012)

This is a dance movie, unlike any other. It tells the story of guys who dance with exceptional skill but do so as a stripper. The movie showcases a human look into the lives of the people who choose to do this for a living and how talented they are. It has some unforgettable performances from people like Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew McConaughey, just to name a few folks. See the movie and transport to a place you might not have thought possible.

Susperia (2018)

Susperia is a movie about ballerinas training to be the best dancers they can be, but it's about so much more than that. There are two versions of the movie. One release was in 1977 and the other in 2018. Both are quite different from each other. What they have in common is that they're uncompromisingly horrifying. They respect how beautiful dance can be, but they add a touch of horror, so if you love to dance but also want to watch something spooky, then these stories are for you.

You've got a lot of movies to watch this fall if you're in the mood to keep dancing. This list has a bit of everything, so you are sure to find something that feels right for you.
