I think that secretly, we all want to know where our favourite actors of the screen came from, what they did to get famous and the inner pitfalls of their lives that make them that slight bit more like us rather than the Hollywood star normally fed to us by the media. Throughout the years, we have had an amazing array of autobiographies by actors including Marlon Brando, Sir Charles Chaplin and even Katharine Hepburn. In this list, I would like to go over three more. Some you may or may not have read but are still super interesting to get your teeth into.

Autobiographies are meant to be a slice of the internal life of the writer. They are meant to be heartfelt, truthful and dramatic. They are made to plunge into our emotions and extract sympathy and empathy. They are made to teach us about the person on the other end who, at times, can seem so distant because of their occupation or their fame. So, when we read an autobiography, we are expecting to see something that this actor had to overcome in order to get recognised, something they had to deal with inside themselves and something they had to get to the heart of and solve all on their own.

So let us now have a look at three autobiographies by actors and see what we can find out about these much loved Hollywood stars in their deepest and most engaging performances to date.

They are in no particular order.

3 Autobiographies by Actors

This ’n That by Bette Davis

Bette Davis is one of my favourite actors of all time and you absolutely know that this was entirely written by her. Whilst reading the book, you can actually hear her voice, listen to her in your mind and read along with her. Her story is a turbulent one filled with heartbreaks, outbursts and one of the most famous rivalries in all of Hollywood history. But her name is still one of the most famous to ever grace film. An iconic actress and a brilliantly cunning but graceful woman - Bette Davis opens herself up for criticisms in this beautifully written autobiography.

What Falls Away by Mia Farrow

Again, when you talk about who actually wrote their autobiographies, you can definitely tell that Mia Farrow wrote her own. Her words reach into your soul. She is scared, she is on the verge of something completely unknown in her life and she feels as if she wants to turn back time and change things. It is raw and filled with this turbulent anger, this strange emotion of fear blended with sorrow. There is a massive darkness to this book that may make it more relevant today than it was since all of this actually took place. You can just really feel her through the pages. Her pain comes through so vividly.

Lulu in Hollywood by Louise Brooks

Louise Brooks was probably one of the most mysterious women in all of Hollywood history. Her persona on and off set made her personal life whirl up into a tidal wave of everyone questioning this oddity that was Louise Brooks. Her method, her lifestyle and her loves all come through in a passionate and smooth autobiography. Everything you have ever felt about her personality is right here in the tone she uses, in the words she selects and finally, you will feel the true nature of Louise Brooks in your soul. All of her dark, mysterious and incredibly talented aura shines through as she relays some of the most amazing experiences of her life.

Conclusion

So there's three autobiographies of actors that I would like you to have a look at if you can. And before you leave me, just look out for three more autobiographies by actors because there are so many that I have read and enjoyed that I could not possibly leave you here.
