Endless Fun at Trivia Nights

As computer games, gadgets, and other gaming consoles became a go-to choice for some relaxation or fun time, traditional games such as Risk or Monopoly have been long forgotten. While this is truly sad, because those are some great games (some people still do play them), there is one event that is becoming more and more popular in this modern, technological age. It’s called trivia night.

We say it’s called trivia night, or trivia game because that’s how most people refer to it. But, you can stumble across names such as pub quiz, or just a trivia quiz. Generally speaking, they’re all the same thing. So, what is trivia night, and do you need to be an expert in trivia to play this game? No, you don’t. Trivia night is made for everyone who wants to have a good time and wants to solve things. Basically it consists of multiple questions from topics that range anywhere between movies, books, nature, sport, and so on. Those questions aren’t really technical - meaning they won’t be something like: What is the formula for 2nd Newton law? The questions on a trivia night quiz are fairly simple and often considered as “well known” although answers to them can sometimes be very tricky. In general, there are different levels of questions but that is the fun part. To get familiar with the questions you can visit Trivia Cafe and check some of the great trivia's they got. If everyone knows every single answer to every question, that wouldn’t be interesting and there pretty much wouldn’t be a winner.

On a normal trivial night, there are several (2 or more) teams. Usually, two teams are the way to go and you'll have a good time. In one team, there should be anywhere between 2-6 members. Less than that and, well you would be playing one on one and that won’t be interesting. More than that means that the crowd gets bigger and believe us when we say that the last thing you want is 10 people shouting the correct answer. Generally, 2-6 people are the optimal number so that if you don’t know an answer to a question, your buddy probably will and you won’t be shouting all over the place.

There are different types of trivia night games and everyone plays it in their own way. Some play with musical trivia and musical sections, while others focus on a specific topic, Star Wars for example. Although this is totally fine and if you’re a Star Wars buff, this would be interesting, in its original form, trivia night has anywhere between 6-10 different topics with 4-8 questions in every single topic. Some people may play with a team captain which picks the correct answer for his/her team and gives it to the judge. This way, you avoid shouting all over the place and only one person has the power to deliver the answer for his/her team. While this is totally fine, some people like the team-building feel to the game and therefore let anyone give the answer, so there isn’t a team leader.

As for the time you have to answer the questions, it’s determined among the contestants. It can be anywhere between 15 seconds to 1 minute, depending on how tough the question is. The winner is picked based on the scoreboard. In most cases, tougher questions carry more points and yet again, this is determined by the people who play the game. In the end, you can play this game wherever you like. Many people play it at home but nowadays, there are organizations which organize trivia night events in pubs. If you’re into these kinds of things you should definitely gather a team and go to play. It’s really fun and you can compete with others or meet new friends. All in all, trivia night is a great game to pass some time and hang out with your friends. You’ll also learn something new at the same time!
