The Best Additions to Ever Come to Tarkov

Here's to the good ones.

(Intro)

A while ago we went over some of the many controversial additions and changes to Tarkov that either had a substantial impact across the wider game as a whole or created quite a buzz when showed off but then kind of just landed with a thud and not much else. It’s a mixed bag; some changes people actually ended up kind of liking, or some started out as rough additions but with some refinement and iteration, landed in a place that the community feels are fair. But today, I wanted to swing in the opposite direction and take a look at some changes or additions that were generally favored by the community. Whether it was simple stuff, or wider sweeping changes across most corners of Tarkov, at least in my eyes, there are tons of things I am glad were added into the game. It’s not all bad sometimes; this is going to be an opportunity for us to reflect on the good that was added and just have a conversation about something that isn’t so inherently negative. We got to mix it up every once in a while.

(PMC Clothing)

Everyone loves customization in their game. Whether it’s for their weapons or in this case, their character, having the ability to change what you wear and stand out from the rest of the players around you are a good feeling to have. And ever since the Reserve update or patch 0.12, BSG has given player tons of options to change the clothing their PMCs wear for both factions. And it genuinely is awesome to see just how many clothing options have been added into the game. For years, it was just the standard USEC or BEAR outfits that so many of us were beyond bored of seeing. It also made things complicated when playing with groups because other than the actual gear your teammates were wearing, it was difficult to discern who everyone was when things got hairy. But with over thirty different tops and bottoms per faction, the amount of variety is staggering. Don’t get me wrong, some are better than others, and some are downright kind of ugly, but hey there is an audience for all different kinds of styles and vibes. I would love to see a breakdown of what clothing gets used the most and what is used the least. But the fact that so many different options have become available either by playing the game and purchasing it in-game, unlocking it through Arena or just buying it permanently, there should be a combination of jackets and pants that speaks to you as a player. Luckily, I found mine a long time ago, but it’s always nice to mix it up every now and again. New clothing has always been a welcome addition, so anytime we get new drip, it’s a good day in Tarkov.

(Cooperative extractions)

Extracting on certain maps can prove to be quite a challenge depending on the raids current circumstances, but knowing that if you stick around long enough and can talk to a friendly player scav that has loaded into the raid, working together to extract and any of the cooperative extractions that have been added over the years is a wonderful feeling. If memory serves me correctly, the first map to have a coop extraction was Reserve. Which, given how huge that update was when it was released, would make sense. For the first time, there was a reason to try and work with other players across the board. Both PMC and scav alike. Because there was no size limit to who could use the extraction, the more the merrier. It was always a nervous affair though; as it only took one well-placed grenade to guarantee a ton of loot and even more scathing messages afterwards. But just having the option available even if you scarcely use it, meant that in a last-ditch effort you could try and convince someone to get out with you. And should you be successful, Fence would deliver a random assortment of loot. Usually, it was awful stuff, but there have been occasions where you could get something crazy like a red keycard, but again that is seldom ever the case. But at least the game rewards you with a bunch of karma and the potential for some loot. It is always appreciated.

(Transit [after it was fixed])

This is definitely a controversial good addition to Tarkov, but ever since it was added I have stood behind the idea of transit points being added and allowing players to cross multiple maps in a row without ever going back to their stash in between each map. You don’t have to use it, unless you’re doing a quest that requires you to transit for it and you only benefit from challenging yourself by trying to go further across multiple maps in a row with bonus experience and just a difficult but rewarding way of playing Tarkov. Now to be fair, after it released this mechanic was broken for over a year at its fundamental core. People were spawning next to other teams, it would crash your game while loading in, making you lose all your equipped gear, and there is still currently a bug where if you close the game while using a transit point, the game simply counts it as an extraction and you return to your stash with everything you collected in that raid. But the idea of being able to just navigate your way through all the maps in the game without ever stopping is such an interesting idea, and honestly the closest we’ll most likely ever get to open world Tarkov. It was always a pipe dream, but the fact we got even something remotely close to the idea is enough for me. Still, for what it is and most how infrequently I would imagine it gets used, Transit now that it has most of the issues worked out is a welcome way of playing the game and extending your time in raid without ever having to extract, dump off all your loot and queue back in.

(The variety of weapons and attachments)

I think we are very lucky that Tarkov has as many weapons and attachments as it does across the whole game. Weapons from all different regions of the world, different time periods and more ways than ever before to customize these weapons to our hearts' content. I mean even back in the day, the number of options some of the staple weapons had like any of the AKs or the M4 had was already surprising because as a Call of Duty player, until 2019, we really didn’t have a ton of options for weapon modding. I mean games like Black Ops 2 and Ghosts were close, and then you play Tarkov and you can put dozens of attachments on a single weapon. It was mind boggling. Not to mention the number of options available, and how that has only increased as the games progression continued. Now, there are some AKs where you can basically turn it into an M4, which is crazy. I recently made a cool looking one where I put an Uzi stock on it and while the stats weren’t that impressive, I thought it looked awesome and just wanted to run it. And the fact that I can now put almost any attachment from any platform on so many different weapons is hard to grasp sometimes. They really let us to make some interesting amalgamations of weapon parts, which no other game really allows.

(PvE)

Riding off the heels of probably the worst time for battle state, being the release of the unheard edition of the game, they went ahead and released the long-awaited and highly requested PvE mode for the game. Essentially, the same Tarkov we know and love or hate depends on who you are, but with the ability to not deal with other players anymore. All the enemies you come across are just computer opponents and to add onto this, you can still play with any of your friends who also are playing PvE. And while people still don’t like this mode of play because it alienates the player base and divides them between two modes for Tarkov, an easy way to explain this would be those players were most likely not playing the game to begin with or were in the other available mode arena, playing in a much more stress free environment. So, you most likely aren’t missing out on any potential players. Either way, this mode has become surprisingly popular with the community, but it’s easy to see why. With how much this game has in terms of length and content that can be beaten, if you aren’t on it every day grinding out tasks of the main story, it would realistically take a very long time to complete most of what you might be interested in. At the very least now, you can do it at your own pace and not feel rushed or behind the curve when comparing yourself to other players’. Which has gotten some of my friends back on the Tarkov horse. For a long time they didn’t really play because they always felt so behind the rest of the players, but now they can just boot up PvE and jam on it for a few hours every week and have fun, so from personal experience I understand why this mode if so popular. And like I’ve said before, anyone playing any version of Tarkov is enough for me. This game is great, and I just want more people to experience it, whatever version or mode that might be for them.

(Outro)

There is certainly a lot about this game that people don’t like for one or more reasons. But there is also plenty that has given people thousands of hours of entertainment and fulfillment. Anything that has made the gameplay loop more interesting or repayable while also serving to provide something new worth working towards is a positive in my book. Tarkov is an incredibly dense game with tons of layers and depth to it. And for all the bad that we’ve talked about over the years, there are little nuggets here and there of good being added. It can’t all be one or the other; there is a balance to it that is rather finite. These are just some examples of things that for the most part, people are happy were added into the game. Of course there might be more, but it ultimately depends on what you like about Tarkov and what keeps you coming back for more. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to watch this video. Let me know down in the comment section below your thoughts on the good that has been added to this game, what you personally think were good additions and be sure to subscribe for more videos about the little things in a game that were added that was enough to keep you hooked for years to come. I hope to see you in future ones.
