REVIEW: Chivalry 2

In a past time, honor and courage were more

In a past time, honor and courage were more. The traits of a hero, who is destined to greatness and claiming the spoils. Medieval warfare was legendary for its respect from fair maidens and the heat of battle. Or, your head was squashed as a watermelon.

This is more common in Chivalry 2. After the success of Chivalry in 2012, Torn Banner Studios has been working hard for eight years to make the idea of a sequel a reality. There is an air of caution as they prepare for the next-gen version after achieving mixed results on their previous console venture. Chivalry 2 is an extraordinary transition to consoles.

Chivalry 2 It's very simple: Hack and slash your foes to a red mist limbs. This is the How This is where combat becomes complex. There are three types of attacks that you can use to defeat your enemy, along with blocking and feinting. Through the hilarious opening tutorial, players will immediately begin to see the easy-to-learn-hard-to-master approach presented. Although it can be frustrating at first to get the right positioning and dragging of your blade, once you have mastered this skill, there are many other gore-tastic options available.

After hours of dueling, it becomes a satisfying game of cat-and mouse to win. Sound design is key to pulling off a perfectly timed feint and an annihilating overhead sweep. Every stab, slash and splash is welcomed with horrifying rips and squelches that 100 percent sell the devastation caused by your actions. It doesn't really matter if it is hour one, hour twenty or whatever; this just happens. Not get old.

The superb J.D Spears score is the backdrop to every fight. I love the new themes that erupt over the action, while old favorites from Medieval Warfare are reintroduced much to my delight. It is enough to keep you on repeat with the main menu music.

Large conquest-oriented multiplayer modes are the heart of multiplayer. The massively scale modes are designed with "team goals" in mind. They drop players onto stunning, richly detailed maps that are divided into easily accessible sections. You'll be placed in either a defensive or attacking position depending on whether you are an Agatha player or Mason player.

Many maps require the taking of a castle or village, and various sub-objectives within. If your team makes it this far, the thrill of raiding the heir’s throne rooms adds to the sense of sheer strength. It is amazing to manage multi-person fights as a way to demonstrate your skill and might. Losing these fights does not feel unfair, and it highlights how balanced the current combat system is.

This is the way it was in medieval times.

There is no sense of death in Free-For-All. Chivalry2 is a fun game that can be played for hours with a simple but effective gameplay loop. The return of "battlecry" adds an additional layer of immersion and fun. Double tap square to receive the hilariously brilliant emote options.

Every spawn on the map will see your teammates screaming to the heavens. This wonderful world is woven together by the loose, parody vision of medieval times. The results might have been less rewarding if the Chivalry franchise had taken a more serious approach. Character customization offers more depth and rewards.

Chivalry2 does not offer pay-to-win options. Customization is about the aesthetic characteristics of your chosen class. You can choose from engraved long-swords or valiant armor designs by simply leveling up and saving in-game currency. To acquire certain items earlier, you can also purchase "Crowns" with real money at the PSN shop.

When you are offered the option of purchasing this currency, it should be noted that this is only an indication that the studio appreciates your support. Although it may seem obvious, this statement is not surprising given Torn Banner Studios' good intentions and plans to implement.FreeIt is great to be able to communicate with developers after launch content.

The same idea of conversation was present throughout the open/closed beta phase. Cross-play is currently not working as expected. Cross-play is not yet available. If you want to play with your friends on PS4 via your Xbox / PS5 / PC, you will need to be on the same platform. PSN digital purchases include both PS4 and PS5 versions. Each version weighs in at 12gb. But not everyone can install two versions, which can be frustrating for many squads.

My brother and I played on the PS4 version together, which highlighted how much effort has been put into making Chilry 2 work across all generations. It can run at 30FPS on PS4 but it is still able to perform with almost no problems.

Chivalry2 is a blood-soaked, fun game that can be played solo or with a group of knights. These maps feature some of the most engaging combat of any game in recent years. You will be able to play for hours upon entering these huge maps. Grab your sword and get ready to fight.
