The Sims Summit livestream this week alongside many other exciting updates for the series and this week also marked The Sims 4 free for all new players. However, also with news such as upcoming expansion packs and the announcement of a new title codenamed Project Renédas most exciting for many players was undoubtedly the future of babies in The Sims 4.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Sims 4 was released in the most unfinished state of any mainline Sims game to date, with an absolutely embarrassing amount of features missing upon release in 2014. Basic building features like pools - perhaps the most iconic Sims death spot - and terrain painting were not yet included, Create A Sim had no body hair options, there was no Sims 4 Wants-and-Fears system until this past summer, and the toddler life stage did not exist. The last item on this list is particularly hard to believe - the fact that aging Sims would instantly transform from the appearance of an infant to the shape of a child is obviously ridiculous and extremely groundbreaking for players.

Younger Sims have not fared very well overall in terms of the attention given to them Sims 4 developers. Infants, thankfully, now exist in The Sims 4and players who wish to acquire the Parenthood Game Pack can actually play with fairly well-developed infants. However, activities for children in The Sims 4 are still severely lacking, and babies might as well not exist The Sims 4, Since they are literally little more than pieces of furniture, debug cheats reveal babies in their bassinets in Build & Buy mode. Currently, babies can be picked up for a small list of short interactions like feeding, but can never be removed from the immediate vicinity of their bed.

The Sims 4 Babies update must be huge to be worthwhile

Currently, very little is known about what the Sims 4 baby update will contain. The only footage shown during the Behind The Sims Summit was of a baby briefly crawling across the floor and then sneezing, which doesn't reveal much - although it does confirm that babies can finally be taken out of their cribs. However, a solution for babies in The Sims 4 must be truly remarkable if EA has any hope of impressing fans eight years into the game's lifespan.

Considering the speed at which The Sims 4 has received other basic features, it makes sense that an improvement for infants has taken this long to be introduced into the game - after all, it took over two years to include infants in the game. After so many years of waiting and resenting the babies The Sims 4 Due to their lack of depth, many players are fed up and really need to be excited for this upcoming update to be a success. In the past, big additions like a Sims 4 update last July, which added long-demanded features like curved walls and Wants & Fears, still fell somewhat flat in the game's community because it was considered too little too late.

It will be a long time before the next main entry in the Sims franchise, and it might be appropriate to give fans Sims 4 developers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the upcoming baby changes, but they shouldn't set their hopes too high either. Speakers at the Behind the Sims Summit emphasized a renewed commitment from developers to the series, which could mean that the new features coming in 2023 could actually be something to look forward to. Only time will tell if the upcoming update will include enough of the missing Sims 4 features to satisfy fans.
