eSports, like any other sport, has its own competition spaces, where players play against each other to see who is the best player or team. These spaces are composed of three factors, being these:
1 - Professional leagues, tournaments and events
The competition spaces are very diverse, so we can find different categories within them:
Professional Leagues
These are regular digital competition spaces where a group of teams play against each other to achieve the highest position, thus achieving prestige and economic rewards that will favour the development of the team.
ESL is the most experienced eSports organization in the world. Its most important recent competition is the ESL Masters, with the League of Legends and Hearthstone competitions standing out, which have lasted for months.
VFO specializes in the competition for eleven-player football video games, highlighting the FIFA video game, where both official and pure eSports football clubs participate.
Tournaments
This is another form of competition, similar to the professional leagues, but with shorter durations, which can be of a few weeks or just a weekend. The tournaments are usually based on one type of video game and the organization is usually in charge of the company that owns the video game (Publisher), although sometimes it is done by external companies. Most tournaments end with a on-site event, representing an important source of income for the organizers through ticket sales.
In the case of the LoL, the main tournament is the League of Legends World Championship, promoted by the game's developer, Riot Games.
Also important is the Hearthstone World Championship or Overwatch World Cup, promoted by their corresponding Publishers.
Events
The eSports events are far from conventional sports events, since they have representative elements such as light treatment, with great scenery effects that make the events a show that mixes theatricality, fun and professionalism. In addition, we must take into account that the average age of the attendees is usually lower than in traditional sports.
2- Casters
A differential element of eSports are the casters that, although in traditional sports the event is also broadcast by an announcer, those of eSports stand out for their passion in narrating the game live. They must know the rules and objectives of the game in depth, as well as the competitive scene in its different levels in order to be able to cast in the most effective way, with all the necessary points of view.
3- Business Associations
Associations are a fundamental element in every industrial and economic sector, since they are the ones that allow private entities to join together to professionalize the sector.
At an international level, the association with the greatest potential is WESA (World eSports Association), whose main objective is the regulation of competitions, thus avoiding the diversity of rules that exist. In addition, it prevents each country from taking its own particular rules, achieving a common union where the rules are unified in order to establish international competitions.
4- Gaming house and high performance centers
Gaming Houses are the centers where professional gamers train their playing skills, team tactics and strategies and other competitions. These facilities exist to design a tough training environment, to prepare for competitions, as in traditional sports. Therefore, they have superior technical elements, such as:
- High bandwidth capacity
- Suitable furniture for players
- Meeting rooms
- Leisure areas
- Etc.
The most similar spaces to the high performance centers are considered, where they have strict training schedules, both in the game and in physical exercise, with working hours that allow them to achieve their objectives.
