FRISCO, Texas - Larry Allen, arguably one of the best players in Cowboys history and perhaps the greatest offensive player in NFL history, has died too soon.

Allen died Sunday at the age of 52. He was vacationing in Mexico with his family when he died.

Allen was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2013 and a member of the All-Star Team in the 1990s and 2000s. Allen played 14 seasons in the NFL from 1994 to 2007; the first 12 of those were on the Cowboys.

Allen is one of three Cowboys players in franchise history to be selected in double digits to a Pro Bowl. He was a 10-time Pro Bowl selection and a seven-time All-Pro selection with the Cowboys. Allen finished his playing career with the 49ers, winning his 11th Pro Bowl in 2006.

The Cowboys released the following statement Monday morning regarding Allen's death:

The Dallas Cowboys are saddened to announce that Cowboys legend, Super Bowl champion, Cowboys Ring of Honor inductee and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Larry Allen passed away Sunday while on vacation at his home in Mexico. Known for his athleticism and incredible strength, Larry was one of the most defensive and accomplished offensive linemen the NFL has ever seen. Its versatility and reliability are also part of its job. Building on this, he went on to inspire many other players; He explained what it means to be a good friend, to compete, and to win.

He loved his wife Janelle (who he called his heart and soul), his daughters Jayla and Loriana, and his son Larry III.

The Jones family and the Cowboys organization send our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Allen family, and we mourn with our many friends and fellow Cowboys who loved Larry.

one Plans and details for the

Commemoration Ceremony will be announced soon.

Allen was selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft out of Sonoma State University in California and quickly showed the world his combination of size and strength. But another quality, speed, could put him on the NFL map early. During his rookie season in 1994, during a Monday Night Football game in New Orleans, Allen chased Saints linebacker Darion Conner after an interception and tackled him from behind, saving a touchdown. MNF broadcasters Frank Gifford, Al Michaels and Dan Dierdorf admired Allen's speed and quickness for his size.

But overall Allen's strength is the best. Allen is famous for crushing opponents with brute force, bench pressing over 700 pounds in the offseason in the early 2000s.

He also showed his versatility early in his career when he switched from guard to opponent. Allen, who was selected to the Pro Bowl three times as a guard between 1995-97, switched to wrestling in 1998 and earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro awards that year. He eventually moved back to guard and is arguably one of the best players at that position.

Allen is one of seven players named to the 2019 NFL Top 100 list.

Summary
Larry Allen, a legendary NFL player and Hall of Famer, passed away on Sunday at the age of 52 while vacationing in Mexico with his family. He was known for his exceptional strength, athleticism, and versatility on the field, earning him a reputation as one of the greatest offensive players in NFL history.
