Your Brain on 'Animal Crossing'
Content Warning: Depression, anxiety, and mental health. Video games have always been under scrutiny when talking about the player's health, more specifically the mental and social "toll" of spending time in virtual worlds. Scientific research revolving around adolescents behavior while "being on Video Games" (known as IAD, Internet Addiction Disorder) started way back in the 1980s in papers such as "Media violence and the self: The impact of personalized gaming characters in aggressive video games on aggressive behavior." (Journal of Experimental Social Psychology 137)Since then, the stigma of people who enjoy passing their free time with video games has not lightened. YouTube is stuffed full of clips of aggressively toxic behavior on online platforms, even frustration with single player games that do not have social interaction. These montages are usually publicly posted in a humorous light, or to shame a player for saying things that are morally unacceptable. Granted, denying the toxicity in the gaming community is pure blissful ignorance, despite the best efforts of gaming developers. An example of a gaming company trying to force the metaphorical chill pill down its player's throats is Blizzard's Overwatch 1.25 update, which adds an endorsement system for positive interaction with teammates.
Hopes for the Gen Eight Games
The Generation VIIPokemon Games marked the first time that I didn't invest any money in an upper version of a Pokemon, and there's a reason for that. For many years, many people have been wishing for new Pokemon games that offered new story lines, and a different task than the eight badges and then the Elite Four. I, for one, have never had a problem with the same story line. It guaranteed a great game every time, which is exactly why I kept buying Pokemon games. I liked the simplicity of them. How I always knew exactly what I was getting into when I purchased the game from the store.

One of me favourite game consoles of all time has to be the Super Nintendo. I remember many a night wasting hours at a time playing the console affectionately remembered as the SNES. Unfortunately, back then games weren't as cheap and could go for as much as 55 quid a pop in the UK. Fortunately, I was a child at the time which meant my parents were footing the bill, but it just goes to show how lucrative the video games business can be. My favourite game for the console has to be Rare's Donkey Kong Country where you played a gorilla trying to get back his banana hoard. It was a massively long platform game, which was challenging for a young audience. I was about age eight at the time I first played it, but tried it recently and struggled. I think I was actually better at platform games when I was younger, but a challenge is always the sign of a good game.
What the 'Link's Awakening' Remake Means for the Future of Zelda
I'm really excited for the Nintendo Switch remake of TheLegend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. First of all, I have not played the original Link's Awakening, so this is the perfect time for me to give it a shot.

Since the game first launched, many new features and mechanics have been added to the ever-popular mobile app game, Pokémon Go. Nearly a year ago research tasks were added, and they introduced a new way for a Pokémon trainer to increase their chances of some pretty rare Pokémon to add to their collection of pocket monsters.

The Metroid franchise is one that Nintendo doesn’t quite seem to understand. There is an incredible consistency of quality throughout the entire series, save for a small handful of games fans don’t want to talk about, but in terms of the mainline 2D series and the Prime trilogy, there’s a stellar presence that could honestly put Mario and Zelda to shame. Metroid is one of the black sheep franchises Nintendo has, and they have difficulty marketing each game with increasingly less than ideal sales since Prime 2, so they unfortunately have repeatedly had to put the franchise on the shelf for a while. Thankfully, in full force, Nintendo has a new Prime game on its way and now a new 2D entry to give the constantly salivating fanbase.

After around a year of my 3DS being broken, I finally got my hands on a working one. Going through my games, I figured I’d do another run through of the classic DS title Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Did I regret it? Not even a little bit.
