Bloodwash is a 2021 horror game that was developed by Jordan King and published by Torture Star Video who is a publishing label for the horror masters, Puppet Combo. This PS1 style game attracted popularity because of dedicated Puppet Combo fans and horror fanatics wanting to see what it's all about. After a larger amount of positive reviews on their demo, the game had finally published on September 16th, 2021 to everyones satisfaction.

Our game starts out with introducing our main character, Sara. She is a pregnant college student who is living with her abusive alcoholic boyfriend. Our killer of the game is a serial killer named the Womb Ripper who kill pregnant women which already is a bad sign for our girl. One night, Sara needs to do a load of laundry after she came back from school but figures that her complex's washing machine doesn't work. Her neighbor tells her that there is a 24 hour laundromat at the edge of town and with no other choice, Sara takes the deal. She gathers herself and goes to the bus stop, during her travel she encounters a strange man who tells her that she's going to die tonight. Foreshadowing? or just a creeper to give the player some anxiety?

After the creepy bus ride, Sara gets to the plaza where the laundromat is and starts doing her washing. As she waits, she speaks to another person in the laundromat and other employees at the other stores. As we look around, we find a photo of two people who we find out to be Samantha Rhodes and Louis Kennedy and we also find out about the old laundromat...

The Incident

A few years ago, Louis Kennedy owned a laundromat and he hired Samantha to work for him. After a while, Samantha got pregnant and people suspected that it was Louises child but things took a turn for the worse when the laundromat got burned down. Samantha tragically died in the fire and Louis had disappeared or skipped town. In the ruins of the old building, they had built the new one connecting to it and people just forgot about it.

After Sara asked most of the people in the plaza about the news papers and the disappearances, she takes her clothes out the dryer and sees that they're still wet. She goes to the front desk to ask for her coins back but the player gets a scare when the employees body feel from the ceiling. Sara immediately called the cops but the call cut off leaving Sara to hide and wait for anyone to help her and we switch povs to the cop that they sent to the plaza location. The officer arrives 20 minutes after Saras call but the door had been locked so he instead enters the income tax office where we run into a naked person aka The Womb Ripper playing with a dead baby. After encountering this person, the power goes out but the cop proceeds and finds a worker that ends up dead at the hands of The Womb Ripper. The cop retreats now with the killer after him and was able to enter the vent system where he travels through with spikes poking through the vent and at the end the killer pops up and kills him.

We come back to Sara who was hiding in the office and spots The Womb Killer kill another patron. Sara knew she needed to escape, the door was already in chains but Sara finds a hidden door in the walls that leads to the old laundromat. Sara explores for an exit but instead finds multiple corpse of the Womb Rippers victims, the body of Louis Kennedy, and satanic symbols and objects while the killer is after her. Some time pass before Sara finds a hand gun in one of the rooms and confronts the killer in a 1v1 battle. Depending on your aim, Sara would end up killer the killer and revealing her true identity to be Samantha.

The Truth

Louis Kennedy had locked Samantha in the burning laundromat that he caused to try and get rid of her because of the pregnancy. Samantha had survived the incident but she did lose her baby and got massive body injuries. All the trauma got to her and she snapped, she killed Louis and starting to go on a massive killing spree on women that had what she lost, a child.

After the credits roll, there's an extra clip of Samantha in an autopsy room where we play as a doctor that's examining her body. After a few minutes of surgery, the power goes out and the player would have to go and turn the power back on. Little do they know, Samantha wasn't dead and she was able to kill the doctor and escape.

Review

Not a puppet combo game but it should be. The developer did a great job at implementing the horror in the game from the random loud screams to the never ending disturbing environment. High alert on the blood aspect, a lot of gruesome scenery that's not meant for children or young teens but you need to respect the develop team for putting the effort into the details. The first person view gives you a more personal feel and the map being so large and the fact that you can interact with so many characters is refreshing knowing that you're playing a horror and that it can somewhat calm you down. The voice acting is high quality and you could tell the developers put time into writing their characters because you can feel real emotion and personality in them. The story is unique and the plot twist wasn't one to expect, the killer in this game is more disturbing than scary. Knowing that they were once a normal person and turned to killing because of poor mental state is depressing and the sound the they produce is spine chilling and brings you into action mood. Final thoughts, it was a very well done game with comedic characters and voice lines, great and disturbing graphics putting everything together, an interesting and addicting story line with the hint of great scares. It certainly should be at the top of horror during their time.
