On November 24th, 1971, a small Northwest Orient Airlines flight took off from Portland, Oregon, destined for Seattle. The flight was only supposed to be a 30-minute journey with 36 passengers and 6 crew members. However, what happened on that flight would become one of the most intriguing stories of aviation history.

The hijacking of Flight 305 by a man who called himself D.B. Cooper has become legendary. Cooper was a man who looked like a businessman, dressed in a suit, white shirt, and black pants. He was around mid-forties and intentionally sat in the last row of the plane, seat 18E. What the other passengers and crew didn't know was that Cooper was a hijacker who had a bomb in his briefcase.

As soon as the plane took off, Cooper introduced himself to the air hostess, Florence Schaffner, and handed her a note. Schaffner thought that he was trying to flirt with her and kept the note without reading it. Cooper then told her that she should read the note and revealed that he had a bomb. The note demanded $200,000 in cash, two parachutes in the front and two in the back of the plane, and a fuel truck to refuel the plane when they landed.

Cooper warned Schaffner not to try anything strange, threatening to blow up the plane otherwise. Schaffner didn't want the other passengers to know, so she quietly went into the cockpit and showed Cooper's note to the pilots. Another air hostess, Tina Mucklow, was also informed about the hijacking, and she sat beside Cooper. With the help of these two air hostesses, the contact between the plane's cockpit and Cooper could be maintained.

The airline's president, Donald Nairobi, made the decision to cooperate with Cooper's demands to ensure full compliance and protect the airline's reputation. After coordinating with the FBI, he talked to a Seattle bank to arrange the money. The bank had a huge bundle of money for such emergencies, but there was something special about this bundle of money.

The money was marked and recorded, which would later help the FBI in the investigation. The pilots were told to keep circling around Seattle until they could arrange the money on the ground, and the half-hour flight became three hours long. Passengers were still unaware of what was happening and believed that they were facing minor technical difficulties.

The flight eventually landed at Seattle's airport, and according to Cooper's instructions, the plane was parked far from the main terminal building. One airline representative approached the plane with a bag of money and the parachutes. When the items were given to Cooper, he allowed the passengers and flight attendants to leave the plane except for Tina Mucklow.

The plane was then refueled, and Cooper started giving instructions to the pilots again. He directed them to fly the plane towards Mexico City at an altitude of 10,000 feet in the air, with the wings positioned at 15 degrees, and to fly as slowly as possible. The pilots told Cooper that flying with these configurations would make it difficult for them to reach Mexico City because there wasn't enough fuel in the plane. But Cooper was not worried about it and told them to fly as he directed.

What happened next was completely unbelievable. Cooper told Tina to go to the cockpit and lock the door, leaving him alone in the cabin. He took out his parachutes and prepared to jump from the plane. A few minutes later, a warning light flashed in the cockpit, indicating that the rear staircase had been deployed.

When the plane landed in Reno, Nevada, it was discovered that Cooper had jumped from the plane, never to be seen again. Despite an extensive search operation, no trace of Cooper or his remains were found. To this day, the mystery of D.B. Cooper remains unsolved.

The story of D.B. Cooper has captivated people's imagination for decades. It's a story of adventure, mystery, and intrigue that has become a legend. The hijacking of Flight 305 has also changed the way airlines handle hijackings. Today, airlines have strict protocols and procedures in place to deal with such situations, and security measures have significantly increased.

The story of D.B. Cooper and the hijacking of Flight 305 will always remain a mystery. It's a story that has become part of aviation history and has captured people's imagination for decades. Despite the extensive search operation and investigations by the FBI, the case remains unsolved, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and intrigue.
