4 Easy Home Remedies for Acne.

What is acne?

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your skin follicles become blocked with oil and dead skin cells. However, there’s no age limit to acne and many people in their 40s and 50s have adult acne.

Causes of acne can also include; certain medications.

Restrictive clothing: shoulder pads, backpacks, underwire bras, headbands

Endocrine disorders genetics: inherited from family members

Smoking: especially in older individuals

Conventional acne treatments, like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, are proven to be the most effective acne solutions, but they can be expensive and have undesirable side effects, such as dryness, redness, and irritation.

This has prompted many people to try to treat their acne at home naturally. Many home remedies lack scientific backing, and further research on their effectiveness is needed.

To begin with, it is advisable to exfoliate your face once or twice a week. (See Article on “Ways to Exfoliate Naturally”).

By sloughing off dead skin cells and other debris that accumulates on your face, exfoliating makes your skin looks healthier, brighter and more youthful. Over time, it can also increase the production of collagen, which decreases as you get older. Cleanse your face twice per day, morning and night.

If an individual is interested in trying certain topical remedies, it is a good idea to talk with a dermatologist before applying the topical remedy directly to the skin, or do a Patch test first, which consists of putting a small amount of the topical treatment on the wrist or hand to test for skin reactions.

1. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, which means that it might kill P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne.

People can apply tea tree extract to their acne in creams, gels, or essential oils. However, a 2016 review article points out that tea tree oil can cause allergic reactions in some individuals, and suggests people use tea tree oil products low concentration (below 5 percent) to avoid skin irritation.

Method

Combine 1 drop of tea tree oil with 1 teaspoon carrier oil.

Dip a cotton swab into the mixture and apply it directly to pimples.

Apply moisturizer, if desired.

Repeat this process 1–2 times per day, as needed.

4. Honey

For thousands of years, honey has treated skin conditions because it contains many antioxidants that can help to clear clogged pores.

METHOD

Add the raw honey to a teaspoon of natural orange juice.

Mix the two and

Apply the mixture to your acne.

Leave it for at least 20 to 30 minutes.

Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, meaning it may reduce the appearance of acne and prevent acne breakouts.

When applied to the skin, aloe Vera gel has been shown to help fight bacteria, reduce inflammation, and promote wound healing.

MWTHOD

Mix 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. You can also use this mixture as a face wash.

4 Green Tea

Green tea is one of the best ingredients to firm skin, prevent wrinkles and provide intense nourishment and hydration. Green tea contains vitamin E that is known for its ability to nourish and hydrate the skin. It not only moisturizes the skin, but also brightens and repairs it.

METHOD

Steep green tea in boiling water for 3–4 minutes.

Allow the tea to cool.

Apply it to your face with a cotton ball or spritz it on using a spray bottle.

Leave it on for 10 minutes or overnight, and then rinse your face with water.

Apply 1–2 times per day, as needed. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
