Prologue

Long long ago in an area that is forgotten and yet remembered, there was a meeting of five kings. From the south came the reluctant leader of the Blackfire wolves. From the East, the all too eager prince of Dragons. From the north came the frozen twin lords of the Seers. From the west, the high priestess of Light. To greet them all, there was the king of man at the center. These five kings met to decide the fate of their world and how to fight the growing darkness. The creatures of twilight and man had to work together to defeat the darkness. My family descends from the western priestess and even though no one knows what happened at that gathering, that would create the divides that exist now.

The wolves are solitary and a bit hostile. The dragons are lonely and seeking physical comfort in anything. The seers are broken and blind. Man is, well, you can imagine the state of mankind. Lastly, the followers of the priestess. While we were once known as mystics, I find “Witches” suit myself and my people much more. We have always held onto our old ways and been respectful of all life, but when Mankind sets out to destroy you, it’s hard to keep an open mind to peace. My grandmother once told me that while man has hurt our people and pushed us to near extinction, we must not hold the sins of the past against anyone because all those who created such atrocities are long dead.

My mother, however, is very weary of mankind due her past, that she refuses to talk about. In fact, all she talks is the legends of our family’s root, Lillaine Neverlite. I’ve heard all the stories of how she fell in love with the scion of the great evil and bore his child in secret and shortly thereafter having her final battle with him and greatly weakening the darkness. Mother says that the child, a girl later named Emillia, was raised by Lillaine’s brother and close followers to be the second greatest priestess our kind has ever know, it is her to whom I owe my name.

The stories of Lillaine have always intrigued me, especially how it is believed that in Lillaine’s dying breath, she cast a curse on her own soul. This curse would be reborn in her bloodline until the darkness was truly defeated. It was said that you could tell it was her by a birthmark on her right Shoulder that would appear when the girl reached the age of 21. The Coven my family and I belong to, all hope it will be me. Especially since my birthday is believe to be the same as Lillaine’s reported death.

Chapter 1 Math, Magic, and Matchmaking

Ellie tosses in her bed as the garish light of the sun gleams through the window illuminating her dorm room. She rolls over and notices her roommate, Carrie, isn’t home. Then again, she never is. Ellie sits up and and checks her phone for any messages and the time.

9:15 am.

“Wait, WHAT?” She drops the phone and launches herself from her bed, almost ramming against the couch as she rushes to get dressed and head to her 9:20 math class.

“Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, I’m gonna be hella late.”

As much as she liked to sleep in, Ellie had promised her best friend, Jean, that she would not miss a single class this semester. If she did, she would receive a surprisingly hard punch from the tiny male who was already waiting at the elevator for her.

“OH MY SWEET LORD CTHULHU. JEAN, I COULD KISS YOU”

“Just hurry up and get your ass in here. You’re late, Ellie.”

He hugged her while lecturing about her magnificent timing.

“I know I’m late. I must have not set my alar-” right before she finished that sentence the Attack on Titan opening theme came blaring from her backpack”

“Or you set it to the wrong time. You never cease to amaze me.” Jean chuckled as Ellie quickly reached into her bag and shut the infernal device off.

“Hey, are we still on for lunch at the river today?” she asked as she shoved her cell phone back into her bag.

“Shit, no. Sorry, I’ve gotta go home during lunch.

“Okay. Just let me know when you wanna go.”

“Alright.”

“Oh, we’re here! I’ll text you later!”

Ellie sprinted from the elevator and down to her class, arriving just in time for it to start. Despite how much she detested math, the class always passed quickly. As soon as class was over, she packed up and ran over to the cafeteria. If she wasn’t having lunch with Jean, she would see if her other friends were here. After a quick survey of the giant room, no one was. She turned around and decided to eat at the coffee shop near her class and proceeded to order her favorite: mac and cheese with ham and onions. It was the goddesses’ blessing that she could eat this almost everyday.

Halfway through her lunch, Ellie got a text from her mom, who lived all the way in Absarokee, Montana.

“You need to come home next week.”

“Why?”

“Well, one, it’s your birthday, and two, we found a nice young man you could do the bonding ceremony with.”

And with that, the phone goes bye-bye. Ellie’s mom, Lisa, was always trying to set her up with “nice young men,” ones that she could do the ceremony with, ones she would be bonded to them for the rest of her life. Ellie detested the ceremony. It meant that no matter what happens with her life, she is stuck with that one male for all of it. What if she wanted to be a lesbian or was in love with someone else already?. She did not want to be bonded. Her mother and grandmother were bonded and both their men were murdered and when that happens, the women literally lose all their power/a piece of the hearts and can never be intimate with another living person. It sounds like emotional and physical hell in Ellie’s opinion.

The rest of the week passed slowly and sooner than she’d like it, Ellie’s birthday was here. The great 21st usually included a night of bar-hopping and getting drunker than the average white girl at a frat party. Ellie, however, was determined to stay in and play Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess with Jean. It was fun and calm, especially since they played at his family’s house near the college. Ellie always thought that her and Jean had the best relationship ever. They were opposites, yet so similar. He was small and short for a boy (it just made him cuter), he had way too many facial piercings to list and swapped them out all the time. No matter which ones he picked, they all looked amazing on him. He also had three tattoos of things he genuinely loved with all his heart. His white hair made his green eyes stand out more against the black he always rimmed his eyes with. He usually wore black, the only exception being his bright pink headphones he always had. In comparison, Ellie was so different. She had Shoulder length blonde hair that she constantly died a pastel pink. Her blue eyes shone as bright as the colors she usually wears. As odd as they were standing next to each other, they accentuated each other’s own personal style. But Once you got inside of them you could see just how fragile they were. while Ellie was on her path to healing with tape holding her heart together, Jean was still hurting, his heart was falling apart and barely being held together by string. His fragility only made him fiercer and more of a fighter but sometimes Ellie got to see him gentle and when he was falling apart. She never thought any different of him she only wished she could make the thing hurting him go away. She wanted to protect him for all time and she was sure he felt the Same about her. Their friendship was based around the mutual desire of wanting to be needed by someone.

However much she wanted to stay in and play LoZ:TP with Jean. Ellie’s family would tear apart her entire city to force her home for her birthday. After making sure her bags were packed into her light blue Chevy Citation, Ellie texted Saika to let her know she would be there soon to get her from her dorm, but first she needed to go get jean from his room. Just as Ellia was walking back into her dorm lobby jean was coming down with a bag in tow.

“Jean! Hey I was just coming to get you! Do you have everything?” Ellia excitedly grabbed Jean’s bag for him while walking.

“Yeah i'm excited to see my dad and Eri.” Jean said as he walked with Ellie to the parking lot, Ellie stopped midstep, a clear expression of confusion and a bit of hurt obvious on her face.

“Wait what? I thought you were spending the weekend with me and Saika in Absarokee for my birthday?” She Asked as jean turned to face her lighting a cigarette.

“No, i thought i told you I couldn't go because my dad is paying for a plane ticket out to minnesota, Sorry.” he took a drag and continued toward the cars.

“Oh I Must have missed that message but that's okay, Do you need a ride to the Airport then?” Ellie continued moving and soon caught up with her friend.

“Oh no, I’m headed over to my mom’s to keep my car their and she is giving me a ride later today.” HE casually said while he took his bag back from ellie and loaded it into his white ‘97 Saturn. “Okay well text me when you leave and land please so I know you are safe!” SHe hugged her small friend tightly before walking over to her own car.

“Will Do!” he yelled from his own car as he drove away from the building.

Elle watched him drive away and let out a big sigh and pulled her phone out of her pocket to let saika know she was on her way.

A few moments later Ellie was driving up to the front of her other friend Saika’s dorm when out of nowhere saika throws a water balloon from the doorway and watches it explode across ellie’s windshield and laughed when she saw ellie’s terrified expression.

“SAIKA I WILL FIGHT YOU!” Ellie yelled out at her heavily amused friend as she got out of her car and hugged her.

“You would lose! Physically and musically!” Saika barely got out in between laughs.

Saika was a completely different opposite to Ellie and Jean. SAika was toll and curvy, like an amazonian goddess. Her golden brown eyes tinged an almost orange color and aprakled every time you looked at them. She kept her hair a little shorter than shoulder length with a brown blonde peek-a-boo dye job. Ellie was positive that no matter what this creature wore she was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, her makeup always flawless and it was impossible to ignore her laugh. Despite being physical opposites the two girls were actually quite attached and similar. Their relationship was cemented in the stars or so they claim anyone who asks. They were always there for each other no matter the circumstance.and they both knew the best ways to cheer each other up. Their friendship was the kind you saw on tv, the kind that could conquer any hardship.

“So now that you have sufficiently jump started my heart, do you want to go get tacos?” Ellie asked as she walked back toward her car with Saika.

“Be still my heart. Of course. You know i'm in love with taco Shell!” Saika laughed as she tossed her bag into the backseat and slide into the passenger seat and began rifling through her music files.

“So where is boy wonder?” Saika asked while finishing the music setup

“Well, he isn't coming. In Fact he told me just before I came to get you that he is going to minnesota instead. So just us. Girl trip.” Ellie answered trying not to sound sad about it.

“I didn't really like him anyway. Come on lets make your birthday special! I am SO stoked for your party and to finally meet your family tonight!”
