Unplugged By AI?
A Poem About The Perils Of Altering The Human Race
She sits snuggling her blanket, sentimental content on tv
Asking Siri about the weather and life’s deep complexities
No need for books or conversation cause this months WiFi is free
Thus the start of innovation and death of society
All she needed was her remote and a box of batteries
Siri serves as her companion no need for human company
Seems she’s learned the hard way love doesn’t come with guarantees
Subconsciously avoiding pain of the human tragedy
Easily ordering through apps cause after 5, the next one’s free
Card nights with alexia, AI becoming all she needs
Her refrigerator makes a shopping list, recording what she eats
Talksting her thoughts on Apple notes, all her hopeless poetry
Voice commanding dryer and dish washing machines
She schedules teams and FaceTime to diagnose mental clarity
Listening to Audiobooks to keep learning while she sleeps
She’s given up on dating cause that pool is full of creeps
She is face down on the subway, radiant blue lights replace the sky
With no one left to answer to, she never needs to try
Protecting her self pride hiding her Idiosyncrasies
No desire for human touch, seems she’s lost all connectivity
Convinced that she’s still in control she maintains her positivity
She crawls back into her bed and calls, “Siri set my alarms for me!”
Depressed from disconnection, increases online therapy
Avoiding the stress of crowds she orders online deliveries
Convinced that she’s ok and this is how it’s supposed to be
She cancels once again her plans with friends she never sees
Robo cars and carts now join the race on city streets
Voice prompted to listen for the tone to be sure the sale’s complete
No human intervention needed, no interaction necessary
Void of social skills, she couldn’t do it anyway
AI tech is in control, human less and hassle free
No good mornings or goodnights, just leave a message at the beep
While the sound machine plays on repeat
Nature sounds to help her fall asleep
Smart watches keep the time but also checks on her heart rate
She sets timers and alarms for months to be sure she won’t run late
She calls for Siri and alexia and chose the accents that they speak in
Daily one sided conversations has AI doubling as mates
It proofreads correspondence between people, it creates
Then corrects and rearranges our words to eliminate mistakes
They set the lights and check the locks maintain the house and heat
Not all bad of course, but another inch it gladly takes
We disconnect for hours playing games AI controls
Starting with a little and then it wants a little more
One more cancellation with the real world and friends
Until they finally decide to quit and never call again
We climb into our cars, AI won’t go until you buckle up
Won’t go into reverse until every single door is shut
If an accident occurs it’s already dialed for help
Convinced if we were left alone we couldn’t do for ourselves
It takes the words you give and creates a resume
Rearranging them into something that the boss wants you to say
ChatGPT and AI tunes, what do they even need us for
Before you know, we’re all alone on the dark side of the door
What started as convenience is now more than we can compete
The human voice and touch have nearly become obsolete
She sits snuggling her blanket, sentimental content on tv
Asking Siri about the weather and life’s deep complexities
No need for books or conversation cause this months WiFi is free
Thus the start of innovation and death of society
For years we’ve taken steps to improve our daily lives
But have we lost more than we know for never having to have tried

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" was popularized by British author and publisher William Edward Hickson
Maybe struggle is the better path.
