The Deadliest Droids In 'Star Wars'

Beware These Human-Cyborg Relations

When George Lucas envisioned the first Star Wars movie, he thought about telling the story from the perspective of everyone’s two favorite droids C-3PO and R2-D2. The final movie does reflect this only to a certain point, but over the years and decades, countless droids have appeared in the galaxy far, far away. Some were small mouse droids. Some were giant iron monsters. Some were helpful like R2-D2. Others were ruthless killing machines. Today, we will be discussing the latter, as we look at the 10 deadliest droids in the Star Wars galaxy.

K-2SO

This KX security droid was originally constructed to work for the Empire before he was reprogrammed to help the Rebel alliance. He would become Cassian Andor’s sidekick and co-pilot. After “defecting” from the Empire, K-2SO helped Andor and Jynn Erso infiltrate the Empire’s data vault on Scariff where he bravely scarified himself to help the Rebels capture the Death Star plans.

Although labeled as “security droid,” the KX series bore many resemblances to actual battle droids with larger than human proportions, the ability to run fast and carry heavy weights, combined with the knowledge to use weapons of all kinds and deliver heavy punches with their iron fists.

IG-88

Although he was only in one scene of The Empire Strikes Back and did not do anything but standing around, IG-88 gained quite a fan following. Being one of the most advanced model of the IG series, IG-88 carried a pulse cannon, a neural inhibitor, a flamethrower, and a toxic gas dispenser, making him not only a perfect bodyguard and bounty hunter, but also a dangerous killing machine.

Mister Bones

B1 battle droids may be one of the most annoying things of the Clone Wars, but a few of them were repurposed to do more than just “Roger, Roger.” One of them is Mister Bones, Temmin “Snap” Wexley’s friend and protector from Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath trilogy. Wexley heavily modified the B1, giving him a vibroblade, a blaster, and a red and black paint job. Bones, who often liked to sing while doing horrible things to Snap’s enemies, was destroyed during the Battle of Jakku.

MagnaGuards

Also part of the IG series, the IG-100 MagnaGuard droids worked as bodyguards for General Grievous and other Separatists. They carried lightsaber-blocking electrostaffs, which made them a formidable adversary of the Jedi during the Clone Wars, as well as rocket launchers and laser darts. MagnaGuards could carry on fighting after they have lost limbs or even their heads.

IT-O

Better known as “interrogation droids,” these floating spheres did not carry blasters or rockets, but needles, mind probes, bone fragmenters, and electroshock probes. Their main purpose was to break the minds and the wills of their victims. They would frighteningly succeed more often that not. Leia Organa was one of the few persons who was able to withstand the torture of an IT-O.

Like K-2SO and Bones, IT-Os could also switch sides as seen in Alexander Feed’s Alphabet Squadron novels where an IT-O works as a therapist for the Rebel Alliance after the Battle of Endor.

Droidekas

They were the upper echelon of the Separatists’ droid army, not as clumsy as the B1, and much more agile than the B2 battle droids. Not only could they quickly roll into action, unfolding onto their tripod stand, and immediately firing away with their two twin blasters. In order to defeat them, one had to get really close and get inside the protect shield that made them immune to laser bolts.

IG-11

The third entry of the IG series on this list bore quite a resemblance with IG-88. Also very fast and agile, IG-11 was able to fire in different directions at the same time with hardly ever missing his target. Originally sent to kill Grogu, he was shot down by Din Djarin and later captured, rebuilt, and reprogrammed by Kuill to become a loyal protector of the Child. Blasting away stormtroopers left and right, he ultimately sacrificed himself so that the Mudhorn Clan could get away.

HK-47

The only droid that is no longer part of current cannon and the only one who did not exist in the Skywalker saga, HK-47 was Revan’s droid during the Old Republic era. Appearing as a protocol droid speaking thousands of languages, he could transform into a ruthless killer in an instance. HK-47 loathed organics, calling them “meatbags” and regarding himself superior to them. He preferred to take on Jedi with sniper rifles, sonic grenades, rockets, mines, and poisoned gas. Later, he became a hero of the Republic when he defeated Darth Malak, and destroyed the Star Forge.

0-0-0 and BT-1

If the worlds of Stranger Things and Star Wars ever clash, this duo would be the “Upside Down” version of C-3PO and R2-D2. These two deeply sadistic sociopaths were once under control of Dr. Aphra, but later turned on the archeologist and tried to kill her using the most brutal method possible. 0-0-0 and BT-1 appeared to hate everyone except themselves, and found pure joy in applying their formidable weapons on humans, aliens, and other droids. They easily top this list as the deadliest droids in Star Wars.
