star wars
Star Wars is a science fiction franchise set in a universe far far away.
Movie Review: 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' (2017)
Hello, one and all. As I told a friend of mine, the Star Wars Universe (which I'm abbreviating to SWU for the purposes of this review; not to be confused with SVU, which is a subsection of the NYPD, which is also a popular NBC police drama, but, now I'm getting off the beaten path here) was a universe that I wasn't to keen on beaming up to (now, that's a Star Trek reference — but OK, I'm back to the topic at hand). As a five-year-old over forty summers ago, I honestly thought it was a lame universe to inhabit. Robots, wookies, a black-helmeted/cloaked villain with the voice of James Earl Jones was just too much of a head-scratching idea for my young head. It certainly didn't help that TV kept pounding the movie's images ad nauseum and with constant repetition. A popular disco song based on the iconic John Williams score was just the tip of the iceberg. I actually made my mother take me to see the film's rival, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, just to shut out the irritating SW mania sweeping the land. That didn't help matters as my mother still chastises me to this day for sleeping through most of it! But, this was the one movie franchise that clicked — just wouldn't stop clicking ever since, much to my chagrin. So, you all know the inevitable cliche: "If you can't beat 'em..."

Star Wars: Darth Vader #3 More Evil, Less Powerful
It should go without saying but there are spoilers below, my essays are for people who have read the issue and want to talk more deeply about themes, canon and plot. There is also a light spoiler for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but you already watched that. You can read previous installments of essays based on the Darth Vader series written by Charles Soule through the links below.

'The Last Jedi': A Film Worth Loving
I don't get people who are saying that The Last Jedi ruined Star Wars. I knew I wouldn't be getting a typical Star Wars movie the second Luke said in the trailer that "it's time for the Jedi to end." I actually lost sleep over that line — thanks, Rian Johnson and Mark Hamill. I was practically panic-stricken, wondering what exactly I was in for when it came to Episode VIII.

Is Rey's Parentage Finally Explained in 'The Last Jedi'?. Top Story - December 2017.
*Spoilers* The Last Jedi tried to basically solve a lot of things, one way or the other. Some startling truths and some not so gentle breaking away of the standards of the old trilogy. But there was one question that had plagued every fan of the Force Awakens. And that was who is Rey and where does she come from? In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren tells Rey that she has known all along and they were junk traders that sold her off for some drug money and basically ran off and died and were buried in unmarked graves on Jakku. This would be a great thing because it shows anyone from the galaxy could be a hero, not just of a particular family legacy (read: Skywalker). But were they really? Is Rey's origin story really that much of a non issue in the trilogy? Or is there some darker origin we do not know? Here are five reasons why this was not the case...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Thoughts and Final Opinion
"This is not going to go the way you think!" Luke Skywalker pretty much summed up what the movie said to fans of Star Wars right there, and I, like majority of the people in the theatre, sat in shock and confusion as the credits of The Last Jedi rolled across the screen. It took me a couple of hours to process the events of the movie, weigh out the pros and the cons, before sitting in front of my laptop and writing a spoiler free review that I posted on futurism.media that same night. I knew that I needed to see the film one more time in order to get my thoughts sorted in a coherent and proper way. And so, having seen the film today, here I am.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review
Hayden's Overall Grade: B Finally the wait is over as Star Wars The Last Jedi has officially arrived in theaters. Star Wars fans around the world have been waiting for this moment since the end credits of Force Awakens two years earlier. The anticipation was at an all time high and people were counting down the minutes until the opening crawl began to move across the screen. Surprisingly, what followed in the next two and a half hours was a shocking, twisting rollercoaster ride of emotional distress and jubilant celebration.

The Last Jedi
So obviously there might be some spoilers ahead. With the crowd and critics so divided about the movie, it's hard to not be on one side or the other. If you watched Star Wars for the first time, this movie was probably super amazing and you have no clue why some people are hating on it. However, if you're a true fanatic you're sitting there wondering how Disney managed to mess up your whole life's devotion to this one thing. I get it. I get both sides.

Why I Love the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy
I know what you're thinking. You're thinking I'm scum. Perhaps rebel scum for daring to utter the opinion that the Star Wars prequel trilogy is anything but utter garbage. Maybe you're right, maybe you're an authoritarian sack of shit that can't handle someone having a different opinion to you. I dunno, just a thought I guess, but here's my coming out story; I LOVE the Star Wars prequels.

'Star Wars: The Last Jedi': A Review
Last night I went with a friend to see the much anticipated second film in the latest Star Wars trilogy, mysteriously sub-titled The Last Jedi. In typical Disney fashion, the secrets of this movie were on lockdown. Nobody knew what to expect other than what was fed to us by the posters, images, and trailers authorised for release by the studio. There was many a theory about what the posters signified, what the brief flashes of scenes in the trailers showed, many just wanting to know precisely what really was next in store for the Skywalker saga. I will note once again at this point, that this is my review of the movie, I'm making the decision not to steer clear of spoilers as I will be touching upon scenes and moments that really caught my attention and made me go "WOW!" that are ultimately spoilers.

The People vs. 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'. Top Story - December 2017.
'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Well…you just had to want different, didn’t you? You just had to call The Force Awakens predictable and formulaic? It seems Rian Johnson was listening and said fair enough everyone, not-your-father’s Star Wars it is, then. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is what you deserve.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - A Review
Let me just say one thing before I get into the review: this is going to be spoiler free, so have no fear of me crushing your hopes and dreams for this movie. That being said, without giving away any pivotal plot points, it's going to be difficult to convey everything I want to, so a follow up analysis of the movie will probably be coming up with spoilers, but this is going to be an overall look at the film, what I thought of it, and what it means for the franchise.
