The space station was a cold, drifting piece in the expanse of the stars. Renee observed the monitors that measured the outside elements and anything of note—though watching became a tedium after 141 days of the same slow-moving realm stretching out to infinity. As a former civilian, she had been trained on a mostly need-to-know basis; the different space missions that had erupted after the third world war had no lack of volunteers and field experts alike, but the lottery system at her tech company had been on her side in the end.

Cask Crusade Part One In a small southern hamlet bordering that great old wood, with trees who uproot and reclaim any newly trodden paths, a tavern sat upon the highest hill watching over its neighbours. As unremarkable as the village was in most regards, this one establishment had earned the respect of oath-sworn warriors and profiteering traders alike for the quality of its in-house ale, which was inferior to the Dynasties’ fine vintages but surpassed all expectations of a landlord’s craft. Through a near nationwide desire for this refreshing brew and a need to escape the crashing rain on this particular day, the alehouse was full and remained that way until the closing bell rang. Two bands of contrary individuals chose to ignore the bell that night in favour of further drinking. The first was a sorrowful pairing who drank to forget, and the other was a revelrous bunch who drank to remember. The regretful duo sat in solemn silence, the oldest between them was a great champion sworn to a local self-entitled regent. Accompanying him was his young apprentice, who only shared a fraction of her commander’s regret. He drank his fill more than an hour before the bell sounded but insisted on finishing the pint he had to hand. The younger soldier, however, had barely imbibed that night and still kept a clear head about her.

Light coursed through the windows, landing gently on her face. There was sounds of cooking in the kitchen. Ellianne took a deep breath to center herself. Her mindfulness: she felt the warm blankets and sheets. The pillow was so comfortable it could have been calculated to her exact body measurements. Sometimes it did feel good to lay here all day and ignore the problems. But today was it: she needed to do something.

Hendrik rubbed his hands together, keeping his mind off the dry tickle in his throat. Crystal glasses sparkled beneath opal chandeliers. The marble interior impressed Hendrik and Pieter as they strolled into the bar alone.

In the coffee shop within the military base, four robots, also known as the Coffee Shop Quartet gathered around a table. Unlike the other robots, they were waterproof and the digestive systems installed could handle more liquids. Sia Bucks and her team called them the coffee shop quartet. These robots, in particular, did not leave the military base until they were the only robots alive on the island. Whilst they seem innocent chattering away about randomised nonsense, they had their sadistic tendencies.

It was a bad day. Not just bad, but a disaster. Once again, chaos began to overthrow Sia’s life. She didn’t know what it was, but chaos followed her wherever she went. Professor Denki had not called. Maybe he didn’t want Kiki back anymore. Sia still smiled, it meant nobody was getting in her way. It was day four and day four was her favourite for the double points. Day Four was the game-changer. People showed their true colours. It was when the ratings would soar when people crack. There was going to be a riot, and Sia loved riots unless it involved the mechanical monkeys on the island who had wrecked the studio.
