Mammoth Cave
High anxiety and claustrophobia have always been a part of my personal truth for as long as I can remember. When I first arrived in NYC back in 1979, I was not only overwhelmed by the scale of its buildings, bridges, and tunnels, but I was flabbergasted by the height of the skyscrapers, and the mindset of their occupants. Throughout the fourteen years of working in Seventh Ave schmatta business, I never felt comfortable riding an elevator, nor I was ever totally at peace working in a high-rise in Manhattan.

Rewatching... Doctor Who: The Evil Of The Daleks - Part 3
"You are more than human." Saturday 3 June 1967 All things considered it hasn't been a great day for Jamie. He opened a booby trapped box of gas which knocked him and the Doctor out. Then he woke up all groggy in 1866 with a thumping headache. In Canterbury. Now I'm sure most of us could tell a few stories about waking up in 1866 after springing a gas box (yes that's right: a euphemism), but even I have never woken up in Canterbury. And now he's been bashed on the head and abducted by a well loved 70s comedy actor (Windsor Davies), playing a thug called Toby, and has woken up all groggy with a thumping headache (probably - he doesn't actually say so), in a barn. Toby calls his weapon 'Mr Nod'. I like a villain who gives his weapon a pet name. Mr Nod is a sort of cudgel thing. I expect if he'd been armed with a pistol it would have been named Mr Death.

Novel Samples
A sample of Chapter 1 for Smile of a Broken King. A knock sounded at the door, prompting the servant to stand and allow a large, dark man with crow’s wings in. His sharp, yellow eyes looked the girl over in the tub, a grin stretching over his long face. He stepped inside and bowed to her, flourishing his feathers. She lowered herself deeper into the water in a sad attempt to hide from him.

Monster Hunters - Dragon Squad (#4)
"Remind me why we took a short way again?" Keith said as he ducked, moving back from the swipe of the chimera's paw. I looked at him from the corner of my eyes, unamused, as I took another strike at the beast. Horn and sword clashed. He threw me back, but I managed to nick the side of its face as my sword slid away.

Alex The Inventor-Chapter 14 (Pt. 2)
Read Chapters 1 - 14 at: Deep Sky Stories Chapter 14 (Part 2) - Time Fizz and Miss Vee... Teresa Vasquez waited for as long as she dared, allowing John Faraway time to tell Alex his story and pass on to him everything that had happened to him all those years. Time was running out though and she gave him fair warning.John finished, then said farewell to her and wished her good luck. He, of all people, knew how uncertain the future was going to be. Teresa wished John all the best wherever he was , then took the archive-disc and hurried away.A particularly hard jolt from the twelve tunneling Flies rocked the floor and caused Teresa to stumble against the safety rail which circled a small area in the center of the bubble-room. It was the area where the State-Shift Coils spiraled down from the ceiling, to a point three feet above the floor.Teresa picked herself up with a scared little cry, staring up at the coils and recalling as though it was just yesterday, that terrible night twelve years ago. The night of the lift-off with John, when their spaceship also trembled as the Flies attacked and Teresa stumbled and fell into the energized mist of the "Time-Fizz" cloud. When that happened, Teresa was dealt an unfair hand by fate and the exotic physics of state-shifted space-time.

The Wrong Man...
Few remember those times when a man’s word was his bond and even the rogue had honour enough when caught to own up to his deeds. No cowardly denials then; no weaselling whines from men wriggling like worms on a hook in their efforts to defray paying the time to fit their crime – but “Fair cop, governor! You have me bang to rights!”

Rewatching... Doctor Who: The Evil Of The Daleks - Part 2
Saturday 27 May 1967 "You seem to be well acquainted with the creatures." Best incidental music so far! There hasn't been a score like this before. We've had lots of specially composed music of course, as well as stock library music, or no music at all. Or as with The Moonbase, ambient sounds doing the same job. The first story had some creepy piano tinkling, there was some marvellously ominous music in the first Dalek one, re-used in Troughton's debut. The Savages had some great orchestral music but as with most of the previous stories it seemed sparse overall. This one has a proper 'full' score by Dudley Simpson with small orchestra as well as Radiophonic synthesiser. Something we will become used to...
