The long-awaited and highly anticipated Star Wars book release from Del Rey, Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Death of Wolverine writer Charles Soule is about three months away. This new massive campaign from Lucasfilm will explore the galaxy about 200 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Disney and Lucasfilm are also releasing The High Republic: A Test of Courage, written by Justina Ireland, a science fiction young adult novelist been known for writing strong female characters, with her credits including the New York Times bestseller Dread Nation, a zombie story set in Gettysburg at the end of the US Civil War. Another book that was planned to be released on the same day is The High Republic: The Great Rescue. All of these are set to be released on January 5, 2021.

According to StarWars.com, the official opening crawl reads:

“The galaxy is at peace, ruled by the glorious REPUBLIC and protected by the noble and wise JEDI KNIGHTS.

As a symbol of all that is good, the Republic is about to launch STARLIGHT BEACON into the far reaches of the Outer Rim. This new space station will serve as a ray of hope for all to see.

But just as a magnificent renaissance spread throughout the Republic, so does a frightening new adversary. Now the guardians of peace and justice must face a threat to themselves, the galaxy, and the Force itself…"

The High Republic: Light of the Jedi is set in a golden age with the Jedi at their height power. The free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm. The worlds flourish under the kindly and the wise leadership of the Senate, but the intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars. When unexpected chaos in hyperspace breaks the ship into pieces, shrapnel flurry emerges from the disaster and threatens an entire system. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. Something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic, where the threat hides in darkness. The Jedi are tested to their limits as the destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped build. They must trust in the Force to guide them through a day in which a single mistake will cost them billion of lives.

The High Republic: A Test of Courage follows teenage Jedi Vernestra Rwoh, who became a new Jedi Knight at the age of fifteen. Her first assignment has generally involved babysitting an eleven-year old aspiring inventor named Avon Starros. They find themselves on a cruiser headed to the new space station called Starlight Beacon. Soon, the journey takes a different path as bombs go off aboard the cruiser. While the adult Jedi try to save the ship, Vernesta, Avon, J-6 (Avon’s droid), a Jedi Padawan named Imri, and an ambassador’s son make it to an escape shuttle and land on a nearby moon. Since the communications are out and the group is low on supplies, they must try to survive as they are stranded on a jungle moon after the Great Disaster.

We only know a little bit about The High Republic: The Great Jedi Rescue. As a disaster strikes in hyperspace and puts the citizens of Hetzal Prime in danger, only the Jedi can save the day.

The High Republic: The Light of Jedi, The High Republic: A Test of Courage, and The High Republic: The Great Jedi Rescue will be released on January 5. Light of the Jedi will be released by Del Rey while the others will be released by Disney-Lucasfilm Press.
