'Star Wars: The Mandalorian' - Din Djarin's Homeworld Name Revealed

Star Wars has such a huge galaxy with so many planets and characters that there are bound to be mysteries that have not yet been solved. Even after all these years, we do not know what the homeworlds for characters like Yoda are. In the case of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s homeworld, it took George Lucas being interviewed by Jon Stewart for us to find out that Kenobi’s homeworld was Stewjon, an obvious reference to Jon Stewart’s name. Yoda’s homeworld (as well as species name) is perhaps the biggest mystery. Naturally, this extends to the Child from The Mandalorian. However, for a while, we also have not known the homeworld of the Mandalorian himself.

In season 1, we saw a flashback in which a kid Din Djarin was saved by Death Watch, a group of Mandalorians features in The Clone Wars animated series. This was a nice surprise for fans who had already been following Star Wars television for a while. It was a pay-off for those who have stuck with the franchise for a good while. We saw the settlement in which the young Din Djarin lived, but we were not given the planet name at the time. Now, we have an answer.

We actually found this out via an Instagram post that has been shared around. This was posted by the Hot Toys Collectibles account. The picture, included below, features a one sixth scale figure of a Death Watch Mandalorian. Just looking at the toy, it looks amazingly made, which is probably no surprise given that it is Hot Toys Collectibles. Just look at the details on the figure. It looks, in my opinion, very refined.

According to the caption, Death Watch found Din Djarin on Aq Vetina. To my ears, this sounds similar to Ahch-To from The Last Jedi, and it also brings the Mos Eisley cantina to mind. So I suppose that it sounds very Star Wars. This planet has not appeared in any other story in Star Wars lore, canon or Legends, so the name does not reveal anything, really. It is not as big of a revelation as Starkiller Base being Ilum. Regardless, it is nice to have a name for the planet. (I remember when it bothered me not knowing the name of the jungle planet at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story for a while.)

One might wonder whether it is possible that we may see Din Djarin return to Aq Vetina in season 2 of the series. Perhaps we could see it in more flashbacks to his upbringing. Then again, it may not necessarily be super important to the story. After all, it seems that he is now trying to figure out where to take the Child, whether that be with his species, the Jedi, both, or neither. It does not seem very likely that his trajectory would lead him to Aq Vetina as he tries to accomplish this. Then again, we are going back to Tatooine, it seems. A reason to go to Aq Vetina could very well be made for the show. It will really depend on what the story calls for in the grand scheme of things.

It is not too long of a wait now for The Mandalorian season 2. It will premiere October 30 on Disney+, and lots of fans are eagerly waiting to see the next step in the journey of Din Djarin and the Child. Whether or not we see more of Din’s past, I am sure that we will learn more about who he is as a person as we follow him further.
