Maul’s 15 Best Quotes From ‘Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord’
The Shadow Lord formally known as Darth Maul has many memorable quotes in the acclaimed ‘Star Wars’ animated series that bears his name.

A fan favorite since he first appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999,) the former Sith Lord known as Darth Maul has made another triumphant return to the galaxy far, far away thanks to the latest Star Wars animated series, Maul: Shadow Lord (2026.)
Set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020,) the 10-episode Maul: Shadow Lord finds Darth Sidious’ former henchman (voiced by Sam Witwer) seeking an apprentice on the Mid Rim planet Janix as he plots to rebuild his crime syndicate after exacting revenge on the crime lords who turned against him during the Galactic Empire reign.
If you thought the Sith warrior was long dead after being sliced in half by then Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace, the Dathomir native was miraculously brought back to life and cyborg-enhanced to become a key antagonist in Seasons 4 to 7 of The Clone Wars.
Not only did Maul form a powerful Shadow Collective with crime organizations such as the Pykes, Black Sun and the Hutt Clan, he also attracted the Death Watch crew of rogue Mandalorians to fight alongside him. A live-version of the Shadow Lord also appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) which reveals him as the head of crime syndicate, Crimson Dawn.

Unlike the early unpolished look of Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018)—in which Maul meets his demise after catching up with arch enemy Kenobi—the animation style of Maul: Shadow Lord is sophisticated with lush backgrounds, coupled with stunning lightsaber action between Sith, Jedi and Inquisitors. Supporting characters on the whole are not drab but intriguing, including—spoiler alert—the breathtaking appearance of the most notorious Sith Lord of all-time in Chapters 9 and 10.
A character of few words in the Star Wars films, the animated Maul—with his trademark deep and raspy voice (thanks to the artistry of voice actor Witwer)—has much to say in Maul: Shadow Lord, from his views on Jedi and Sith values to the acid-tongued quips to those skeptical of his actions.
Here are Maul’s 15 best quotes from Maul: Shadow Lord.
Maul’s 15 Best Quotes from ‘Maul: Shadow Lord’

1. “The Pykes. Crimson Dawn. (Looti) Vario. Soon they will all pay.”
—to Rook Kast (Vanessa Marshall,) when his Mandalorian ally asks why he bothers himself with low-level gangsters in Chapter 1, “The Dark Revenge.” Members of the Shadow Syndicate are prominently featured in The Clone Wars, Solo, and The Book of Boba Fett (2021.)
2. “She is a Jedi. I shall fashion her into a weapon which can help us destroy all those who have betrayed me, including Darth Sidious.”
—again to Kast, when the latter asked why he is interested in the young Twi’lek Devon Izara whom they met on planet Janix in Chapter 2, “Sinister Schemes.” As we learnt from Qimir “The Stranger” in Star Wars: The Acolyte (2024,) which is set before the events in The Phantom Menace, Sith lords love to fashion apprentices into weapons.
3. “You’ve been indoctrinated since you were a child. Now you must adapt.”
—to Jedi Padawan Devon (Gideon Adlon), stating the fact that the Jedi Order starts training force-sensitive children at a very young age in Chapter 2.

4. “You were part of an order poised to serve the Republic. You don’t realize the fragility of these institutions until they are ripped away.”
—again to Devon, when the latter retorts they were nothing alike in Chapter 3, “Whispers in the Unknown.”
5. “My brother was murdered. My mother was murdered. All by the same enemy who destroyed your order. So tell me again, are we nothing alike?”
—also to Devon, telling her that they have a common enemy in Emperor Palpatine (a.k.a Darth Sidious) who issued Order 66 that decrees all Jedi as traitors to the Galactic Republic in Chapter 3.
6. “An admirable attempt. She will make an excellent apprentice.”
—to Kast, when the latter reminds her boss that the young Jedi tried to kill him in Chapter 5, “Inquisition.” In The Clone Wars Season 7, Maul had tried and failed to woo Anakin Skywalker’s former Padawan Ahsoka to be his apprentice.
7. “Allegiances can be severed.”
—again to his Mandalorian subordinate, when she asserts that Devon has a close relation with her master Eeko-Dio Daki (Dennis Haysbert) in Chapter 7, “Call to Oblivion."

8. “Likewise.”
—to Marrok (A.J. LoCascio,) when the Inquisitor a.k.a First Brother reveals that the Emperor wants the Shadow Lord dead, in Chapter 7.
9. “My home, my family, my brother… all taken from me. Sidious, you did this to me. You did this!”
—A traumatized Maul out loud, blaming his former master for all the hurts in his life after experiencing hallucinations of his turbulent past as he was escaping from the Inquisitors in Chapter 8, “The Creeping Fear.” He said something similar to Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars Rebels Season 2 episodes, “Twilight of the Apprentice.”
10. “I won’t let him do this to anyone else!”
—again out loud to himself, revealing a rare glimpse of noble purpose on why he wants to eliminate Darth Sidious after what the latter has done to him and his family, in Chapter 8.
11. “Oh, have some respect, Rook. He’s a Jedi Master and we need him. For now.”
—to the Mandalorian warrior, when she asks if there is a need for Master Daki to tag along on their escape from Janix in Chapter 9, “Strange Allies.”

12. “You are no Inquisitor! What are you?”
—to Darth Vader, forgetting that the powerful Sith Lord could be his ex-Master’s newest apprentice in the season finale Chapter 10, “The Dark Lord.” In The Clone Wars Season 7, he explicitly informs Ahsoka that her former master Anakin Skywalker was being groomed to be Darth Sidious’ new acolyte.
13. “Our enemy knows how the Jedi fight. You must adapt to outsmart him.”
—to Devon, urging the Jedi Padawan to use fear as motivation, while Master Daki advises her not to, in the finale episode.
14. “Use your rage and unleash your potential.”
—again to Devon, after her Master was slayed by Darth Vader, in Chapter 10. The Jedi Padawan would eventually heeds his advice.
15. “I will train you and we will have our revenge.”
—to Devon once more, advising the latter that presently she is no match for Darth Vader in the season finale. This quote echoes Darth Maul’s very first line of dialogue, “At last we will have our revenge,” in The Phantom Menace.

Maul: Shadow Lord is streaming exclusively on Disney+. Season 2 is expected in 2027.
