If you could communicate with your past self, would you?

Forget about the logistics and the technicalities of how this would happen. Forget about why it would happen, just imagine for a moment that you would literally be able to hold conversation with you.

Kinda strange to think about, huh?

Having some difficulty imagining this? Don't worry, I can help you out...

*Poof*

You were just on the internet, reading articles on the Vocal website... but now you are not. Now you find yourself in some strange location that you cannot identify and have never seen before, except for maybe in some sci-fi movie. You seem to just be standing where you are and out of no where, you see, well, you see you walking up to you. This version of you is the you from 3 years ago. There's no one else, just the 2 of you. You both are aware that the other person is each other. Both aware that you can hold conversation with each other. So you from 3 years ago sits down, as do you. You both stare at each other and are amazed.

A random clock appears in the air, viewable by both of you that has a timer, ticking, showing that the 2 of you only have 1 hour to speak to each other before you both return back to where you each came from.

Tick - Tock - Tick - Tock....

What would you tell your past self?

I'm sure most people would immediately tell their past selves not to do something specific because it ruined a certain thing, or a certain relationship. Or maybe you would tell yourself from 3 years ago to tell so-and-so about that one thing, because if they don't then something undesirable happens later, that you wish had not occurred.

But are you sure you would want to do that? I guess we would want to explain our past mistakes of the last 3 years, to help guide the us from 3 years ago down a potentially "better" track.

But hold up, maybe if you told the you from 3 years ago what you have done the last 3 years and what it resulted in, maybe the you from 3 years ago, changes the results by doing something else... but what if the results become worse?

You ever think of that?

That maybe everything happens for a reason?

That maybe it was meant to be, the things you have done, for the better, even though you aren't aware of why?

This leads us down the rabbit hole which consists of:

-do we have free-will?

OR

-everything that happens, always was going to happen, anyway?

Did you, of your own free-will decide to drink that glass of water, or was that free-will an illusion? Because you were always programmed to drink that glass of water?

Alright, alright, alright, we are getting off track and off topic, let's go back to us talking to the us from 3 years ago.

Now knowing this line of thinking, would you still choose to tell yourself from 3 years ago the things you already experienced?

I'm not sure I would, but then again maybe I would.

I....

don't....

know....

It is a tricky dilemma because you want to share the wisdom of what is going to happen to you from 3 years ago if they do what you already did, but telling them anything could potentially make them (make you from 3 years ago) have an even worse experience than you already have had. Are you willing to risk it? Do you want to take on that type of responsibility and alter your past self for better or for worse?

Those are some big shoes to fill.

One thing is for sure, (at least i think)....

that there is nothing that the you from 3 years ago can tell you that you don't already know. You are the 1 with more information (being from the "future" technically via the you from 3 years ago and their point of view)

The only thing they can tell you is stuff that you may have forgot about.

So, now we revert back to the initial question, now that you may be thinking differently.

If you could communicate with your past self, would you?
