Hidden in the Stars

Scorpio Water Monkey Evolution

Hidden in the stars are the secrets of our personalities. When and where were each of us born?

I’m not sure when astrology became such a trendy thing. Being half Chinese, I had always ascribed more to the Eastern astrology which is celebrated each year. There are 12 animals, their order based on when they passed into the kingdom (think Noah’s ark but more regal). For each passing of any one particular zodiac, there are different elements – water, fire, wood, earth, and metal. Today, 2/26/21 (I’m cutting it close to this deadline), is Chap Goh Meh.

Much like the Western astrology, the zodiac dictates aspects of personality, health, fortune, wealth, and relationship match. To complicate things further is when one tries to understand how the two interact. As a scientist, it’s hard for me to fathom the ins and outs of being a Scorpio Water Monkey. This also means I’m a double water zodiac. Forget about moon signs, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. I consider myself a fairly intelligent human being but I simply cannot navigate this particular topic with any kind of grace.

Back to the topic at hand – Western astrology. Again, I’m a Scorpio. According to astrology-zodiac-signs.com, this means that I am resourceful, brave, passionate, stubborn, distrusting, jealous, secretive, and violent. Naturally, depending where I look I see different things. I can’t help but recall a meme I once saw about zodiac evolutionary states (see photo).

The description of Scorpio is that of passion, assertion, determination, decision, research, leading, mystery, and ferocity. I’ve seen descriptions that include an ability to manipulate and imply that Scorpios are nothing short of nymphos. The best career matches are scientists, doctors, sailors, detectives, and managers. Sometimes I’ve seen it implied that Scorpios can be fairly materialistic.

The million-dollar question here is whether any of these personality traits fits me as a person. Well, I am a Research Scientist – so I suppose the career match is 100%. I wouldn’t call myself a jealous person – I tend to take the tact of, well alright, I’m capable of better. I’ve been accused of holding my cards to my chest, and it is very rare for me to share everything in a manner that anyone can decode. So I suppose that does make me secretive, whether intentionally or unintentionally. In truth – I have no reason to lie or hide, and rarely do. It’s just a matter of the core truth being very difficult to get to. You’d need to ask the right questions.

Unintentionally or intentionally, I find it difficult to trust others. I’m not great at letting things be without wanting the whole picture – motive, intent, and action. I pick up on when actions and words don’t match quickly, and why they don’t. As far as passionate, brave, stubborn, and violent – I definitely lose my motivation when it comes to doing things I don’t enjoy and don’t want to do. Why bother? I’d probably categorize myself as headstrong, and most definitely impatient. Violence not so much – I get angry very quickly, but my expression of anger is not to hurt anyone. Usually I’ll go work that off in the gym or on some kind of project. I’m most creative when I’m upset and believe wholeheartedly in pouring all negative things into creating something beautiful. I won’t comment on being a nympho.

As far as Scorpio evolution goes, I’d argue that any sign could exist at multiple evolutionary stages at once, and have a predominance that suits their situations. I don’t care to judge others (3rd stage) – this doesn’t help me, and in the vast scheme of things I don’t care what other people say or do if it doesn’t cross in my path. I do enjoy wealth (2nd stage) – who doesn’t? Perhaps a lot more than others though, all things considered. And finally, yes, when I’m angry, those workouts might end up in a self-injury (1st stage). All these things exist simultaneously for me.

I won’t delve into the complexities of moon signs (Virgo), or what it is to be a Scorpio Water Monkey. Yes, I am a Scorpio. Does the fact that I exhibit traits of a Scorpio mean anything at all? To me, it doesn’t. Once in a while I’ll check if I need a boost, but aside from finding astrology amusing and entertaining, my value to this world, and the people who know me, is what I put out there, which is so much more than what astrologers say. The value to astrology is that it is a comfort for us to know that there may be some kind of logic or reason to why we are the way we are – however far-fetched.

For the believers, I hope you find what you’re looking for. For the non-believers – don’t be so harsh on those that do believe – it won’t hurt you that someone has something that makes them happy even if you don’t understand it.

Enjoy the memes.

XOXO,

Felicia (Scorpio Water Monkey)
