Ewan McGregor Talks About Performing A "Special Scene" With "Someone Very Special"

Who Could It Be?

There is a lot of speculation going on for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. Expected for release on Disney+ in 2022, this show will take place ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. We have seen the cast list announcement a little while ago, and fans are excited to see what role Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader could play in the series.

On the new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ewan McGregor was interviewed remotely while he was at the studio where Obi-Wan Kenobi is being filmed. One could see posters for Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith on the wall behind him, which is fitting given Christensen's involvement. Funny enough, McGregor was asked about Darth Vader's dressing room and did not seem to know whether or not it had already been announced officially that Darth Vader would be in the series.

During the conversation, McGregor was asked how he celebrated May the Fourth, and he revealed that the day was spent doing a "special scene" with "someone very special." Out of context, one might believe that this refers to Hayden Christensen, whom he starred alongside in the last two films of the prequel trilogy. However, this cannot be the case. Let's take a look at what he actually says in the video:

Jimmy Kimmel: Did you guys celebrate May the Fourth last week on set?

Ewan McGregor: Yes... I got to play a very special scene on May the Fourth with someone very special in my life, and that's all I can tell you about it.

JK: Is this someone special that we've seen you on camera with before?

EM: No.

JK: Never? Interesting. Is this special person related to you in some way?

EM: No, not necessarily.

Since McGregor says that the special someone is not someone who has been on camera with him before, he certainly cannot be alluding to Hayden Christensen. And while Qui-Gon Jinn is not known to be taking part in the series, we have seen McGregor onscreen with Liam Neeson, so it cannot be him either. I also thought he may have been referring to a family member until he said it was not necessarily someone related to him.

Other familiar faces known to be in the series include Bonnie Piesse and Joel Edgerton, who are reprising their roles as younger versions of Beru and Owen Lars, respectively. McGregor is onscreen with Piesse at the end of Revenge of the Sith, so it cannot be her. With Edgerton, however, it is kind of complicated. Technically, when Kenobi arrives at the Lars homestead, he and Owen Lars are standing far apart on opposite ends of the screen, with Owen not really facing his direction as he delivers baby Luke to Beru. So they were onscreen together, but they did not interact onscreen. It is possible that McGregor may not realize that they were technically onscreen together. Or maybe he does know, and he is not referring to Owen Lars.

While we are on the topic of baby Luke, perhaps Luke is a possibility, though this is also kind of tricky. Ewan McGregor was onscreen with baby Luke. However, if a 10-year-old Luke Skywalker appears on the series, this would surely be a different actor playing the kid, whom McGregor has never shared screentime with before. If he is referring to a scene between Ben Kenobi and kid Luke, that would be a very fitting moment to film on Star Wars Day.

Of course, it is also possible that McGregor could be alluding to a character with whom he has never been onscreen with before. Another possibility that comes to mind is Satine Kryze, Obi-Wan's love interest who appeared in The Clone Wars animated series. Ewan McGregor has never been onscreen with this character, but she would certainly fit the bill as someone special to Obi-Wan. Fans have speculated that we could see her alongside younger Obi-Wan in a flashback. She is not confirmed to be a character appearing in this series, but it would not be tough to write in an appearance for her.

For now, it is all a mystery. Who do you think is the special someone who filmed a scene with Ewan McGregor on May the Fourth?
