It's been an amazing week to be a fan of the galaxy far, far away: on December 10th, Star Wars fans were treated to a massive amount of brand new announcements and updates! A show previously known now has more details ready to share, including a sizzle reel for the upcoming series to give fans a closer look at what's next for the production. Rogue One star Diego Luna will be reprising his role for the Disney+ series as well as executive producing a spy-thriller based around Cassian's time in the Rebellion. The footage looks incredible and you can click the video below to watch!

Rogue One was definitely one of the highlight movies for the Disney era of Star Wars. Taking audiences back to the original trilogy era in the Rebel Alliance's fight against the Empire, the movie was a deviation from the normal formula of following a Jedi through their adventures across the galaxy. Instead, Rogue One took a sobering view of the seemingly-endless war from the perspective of those without the power of the Force (mostly, anyway; Chirrut Imwe is probably the exception). From Bourne series styled black ops spy work to terrorism and military occupation of conquered worlds, Rogue One's tone is vastly different from the galivanting Jedi that can bat away laser blasts like insults and cut their way through most of their problems with ease.

The show boasts an extremely high production value, along with one of Disney's specialized Stagecraft screens that allow for the production team to film exterior shots while indoors with the aid of projectors working from a 3D rendering engine, replacing the need for a green screen and filming on location in many cases. The behind the scenes footage shows the production designers say that they're treating the series as if it's another mainline Star Wars film, showing dozens of concept art pieces in the sizzle reel. Two hundred named character cast members, six thousand extras, droids, and a full menagerie of creatures and aliens will be featured in the series. It's incredible to see how The Mandalorian's success sparked a creative revolution to portray the Rebellion's own revolution.

Andor will serve as a prequel series to the Rogue One movie. Even though that particular detail was not among the announcements, it can be safely assumed that the new series will be a prequel (mostly because Cassian Andor is decimated by the Death Star along with Jyn Erso and the rest of the Rogue One main cast during the attack on Scarif's Imperial base). The first season will have twelve episodes. Production started in November, and the series is being created by Bourne screenwriting veteran Tony Gilroy, a fitting choice for a spy thriller series. Star Wars: Andor will premiere in 2022. Joining Diego Luna is a number of familiar faces, including Stellan Skarsgard (The Avengers), Adria Arjona (Good Omens), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter), Denise Gough (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Kyle Soller (Fury), and Genevieve O’Reilly reprising her role as Mon Mothma.
