“The Flash,” now gracing the big screens, is an exhilarating blend of the mind-bending and the cataclysmic, leaving audiences captivated by its multifaceted nature. At the heart of this electrifying journey is the extraordinary performance of Ezra Miller, who seamlessly embodies the role of Barry Allen, a forensic chemist bestowed with superhuman abilities after a fateful encounter with lightning.

Though we caught glimpses of Miller’s portrayal as Barry/The Flash in previous DC films like “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” this latest installment showcases Miller as the undeniable star, effortlessly encompassing every aspect of the character with a perfect balance of wit, emotion, and sheer dynamism. Despite any controversy surrounding Miller’s personal life, as an actor, he undeniably excels.

Under the direction of Andy Muschietti, renowned for his work on the “It” movies, “The Flash” bursts onto the scene with a riveting start, immersing us in Barry’s self-deprecating humor as he laments being the “janitor of the Justice League.” However, an urgent call from Alfred, Batman’s trusted butler played by the incomparable Jeremy Irons, beckons Barry to assist the Caped Crusader, as the rest of the Justice League members are occupied with their own missions.

In a daring turn of events, the collapsing Gotham Hospital becomes the backdrop for an almost tragic yet audaciously comedic “baby shower,” igniting a sequence of outrageous and delightfully off-kilter action scenes. This amalgamation of elements strikes the perfect chord, creating a mesmerizing blend of laughter and adrenaline that leaves us craving more.

Amidst the chaos, we delve into Barry’s poignant backstory, where the haunting memories of his mother’s murder (superbly portrayed by Maribel Verdú) and his father’s wrongful imprisonment (brilliantly brought to life by Ron Livingston) have left lasting psychological scars. Like Batman, Barry is an orphan, caught in a tempest not of his own making.

But a glimmer of hope emerges when Barry discovers his newfound ability to manipulate time, offering a potential solution to save his mother. However, as any avid “Back to the Future” fan knows, tampering with the fabric of time can yield dire consequences. Suddenly, Barry confronts his 18-year-old self — a gangling, lovable goofball with no clue how to reset the course of history. Miller’s performance shines as he deftly portrays the duality of these two versions of Barry Allen, creating a mesmerizing on-screen presence.

With a desperate need for guidance, the two Barrys embark on a journey through time to seek the wisdom of Bruce Wayne, portrayed by the legendary Michael Keaton. Keaton’s return as Batman, reminiscent of his iconic portrayal in Tim Burton’s “Batman” films, adds a delightful touch of grumpy charisma, as he questions the suitability of Superman and, in turn, endorses his superpowered cousin, Supergirl, portrayed brilliantly by Sasha Calle.

Just as the audience begins to navigate the labyrinthine multiverse, “The Flash” takes a thrilling turn, introducing a plethora of DC heroes (no spoilers, but they multiply like rabbits) in an epic battle against General Zod, Superman’s arch-nemesis portrayed with chilling intensity by Michael Shannon. The kaleidoscope of interdimensional escapades proves exhilarating, albeit overwhelming. In its 2-hour and 35-minute runtime, the film’s multifaceted narrative, filled with alternate timelines of life, death, and resurrection, poses a challenge in keeping track of the myriad characters and their counterparts.

Regrettably, the final act of the film, including a post-credit sequence, overstays its
